Default My initial 07 track impression, video....

The track conditions were not good, in fact they were the worse I have experienced at this particular track ever.

I don't even know why they hold T&T when they aren't going to work on getting the starting line sticky enough for cars with street tires. The only cars having any luck had slicks with a LOT of surface area. Even the cars with drag radials spun all night, not just off the start, but going into second.

For my first pass I launched it very easy, and got into the gas, shifting slow to get a feel for the new car. I knew immediately that the 07 felt a little stronger than my modified 04 did. I also found that the shift into 4th happened right before crossing the finish. The result with an easy run. 13.64.

Something else I noticed on the first pass was that the clutch felt soft, and slipped a bit in the high gears.

On the next run I did two quick tire cleaning spins. I then launched the car at 4K rpms, and upon doing so the clutch pedal would not come off of the floor, so I had to let off quickly and abort the pass. This was VERY disappointing as the 04 had never done this. When I let up on the gas the clutch popped back out.

I let the car sit for a while before making another couple of passes. On the next attempt I launched very easy, about 3K, and got into the throttle after getting traction, which was not good. I then shifted into second and spun briefly, killing my trap and time, as I lifted just a bit to get it back. The result, 13.54.

I took a break again, as the clutch again got too soft, and didn't shift firmly into 3rd or 4th. On my next attempt the clutch held with a 2800K launch, easing off the line, and I then lifted briefly going into 2nd to avoid spinning badly. The result was a short spin, but I could feel the car made up a lot of time on the top end, resulting in a 13.45.

I made a couple of more attempts which resulted in aborted runs and slower times, with high traps around 104, with slow shifting and easy launching.

There is no doubt that the 07 is much stronger than the 03-06, but mine seems to have a clutch issue, which I will have addressed this week. It still gets soft entering the highway, by 3rd gear.

So the best results for now are a handicapped 13.456 and 8.725 1/8th with a dismal 2.08, launching at low rpm and 1/3rd throttle, before getting into it, while lifting for the 1st to 2nd shift, to avoid nothing but wheel spin.

Don't tell me that the 2.08 is decent either, because the car has much more potential than that. I think 1.9's will be easy with the clutch acting right, and I should be able to easily gain 2/10ths+ and 1-2 mph with quick shifting and better traction.

I gave up after a few passes as the clutch just would stick to the floor on the launch, so it was a limited event for the 07, given the problems. I wonder about the clutch, and if it is just not up to the new power output, or if I just got one that is bad. I'll find out.

Conditions were 59 degrees, 40% humidity, elevation 354 feet. The Z had 1/4 tank of gas, cheap gas I might add. I thought I would run it out and get gas at BP before getting to the track, but it didn't need any, and I wasn't going to add weight. The car weighed in at 3235-3240, obviously about 60-70 lbs heavier than my 2004 was stock.

Here are a couple of pics and video. My best run had me against friend in a much faster SC GTO.

I should add that my best pass with the 04 and all it's bolt ons, on street tires, at this particular track was a 13.4 with a 1.9 60'.

nice stock times! very cool to see that the 07 should be able to get into the 12's with alittle work.

NIce times, 13.2 easy maybe high 13.1 with good conditions. Bolt-ons and DR's or slicks will be 12's. Seems like the clutches in Z's got weaker every year, my 03' stocker took abuse like a champ, my GF's 06' sticks like yours when you rag it and feels like crap. I'll be looking forward to the "real" results...

The DA at Reynolds was right at sea level which is excellent, but it sounds like traction was an issue. My track is the same way in that they don't prep on T&T days unless there are some big dawg sub 10-second cars out there testing for an event the next day. Your clutch issue is very common, at least with G35s. LS1 F-Bodies and Vettes have the same issue. The only real fix I've heard of is replacing the clutch.

Your Z is impressive none the less. Especially with the low miles, an acting up clutch, and street tires.

I never have good experience with traction at Reynolds. Always poorly prepped I think.

Hopefully you can get that clutch thing worked out. I would love to see what else the 07 has got. 13.4 is great starting point too. These times are awesome!

2.0x is a good60'. I don't care what anyone says. I don't think that particular car will see better times than 13.4 at that track. Sorry.

Slipping clutch in a brand new car? errr.... ok. I guess I'll buy it, but not with much stock.

One thing I can say is that the trap speed is sort of low for the ET though. It's probably due to the fact you have to shift to fourth right before the line. That car could probably keep up with cars that can trap 105-107 easily.

Congrats on the runs though. The 07' is really definitely the fastest stock 350z yet.

yes it is a tad low.

you trapped higher than him and had a considerably better 60'.

you do that math.

I' pretty sure that if he could carry 3rd gear to the line you'd see 105-106mph.

Congrats on the runs though. The 07' is really definitely the fastest stock 350z yet.

When you are launching at a low 2,500 rpms at 1/3 throttle, and then getting into it once you get moving, 2.08 is a so so 60' at best. The car can definitely do better. I also had to lift for the shift into second, and shift smoothly to avoid massive wheelspin. That cost me time and trap speed.

I have no idea why you don't believe the clutch won't slip. I was there, and it stuck to the floor under power 3 times, causing me to abort the runs, and call it a day. As soon as I let up on the gas, the clutch popped out. This is definitely a problem that will be addressed at the dealer.

I have also noticed it starting to do this under moderate acceleration, getting on the freeway.

Anyway, 13.4 is a good starting point, but not what the car is capable of.

Oh, and about the trap speed, it will bounce off the limiter if you try to run 3rd all the way through. You have to upshift, or you will lose a little time and speed. The limiter will hit right before the finish if you don't.

Warren, are the tires on the rims the same RE040's as in the past? What size do they run?

Nice times. You best run 13.1-13.2 stock.
