Thumbs up First Time on Slicks

Yesterday at the Mid-A track day I had the pleasure of running slicks for the first time. Alberto was nice enough to bring his out for me to use. With some of his coaching and 1-2 practice runs I was able to consistently pull 1.8s. Peak350 something you said to me a while ago made me realize I just needed to run balls to the wall so I took your advice and things worked out. For the record the stock clutch definitely doesn't like 6000+rpm launches though.

The weather was still a bit warm so I think with more practice I can do better. At my power level and a good launch I think I can get a 1.6-1.7 60'. What do you guys think, is it a realistic expectation or is more power needed for that?

How did you launch and what did you do to attain those low 1.8s?

I doubt you can do better than high 1.7s though. At least in NA form (without gutting), it'll be very hard.

Thumbs up

Nice job man, I was the number 6 car in your first time slip. I had the black 350z track model. That humidity really affected my utec tune. Towards the top of my powerband my car was falling flat on it's face. That was my first time at the track. I now realize how shitty running on 245 wide street tires couldn't cut anything better than a 2.0 60foot. Now with all you guys using slicks or DRs I'm going to have to follow suit. Just gotta find some that fit over the rear brembos. Great job again, awesome run.

Unless my clutch gets burned out before better weather, I will get 12s on the stock clutch and flywheel. The biggest downside is that the clutch slips if you don't launch it right.

Thanks man I was bouncing the RPMs between 6-7000rpms and quickly releasing the clutch. Not dumping, but a very quick release. As soon as I was off of the clutch I was full throttle. I would not have trusted the car at such high rpms if Alberto had not given me the tips he did that night. After every 1 or 2 runs he would come over and give me tips for adjustments which really helped. 1.6s may or may not be pushing it but I think 1.7s can happen. Only time will tell!

Thanks man, I'm not sure if I had a chance to speak with you face to face but it was great lining up with you and all of the Zs. And you're right the weather was not conducive to record times. The only reason I broke my personal best was a better launch and a bit more power from the reflash. I definitely had a blast, cant wait for the next one!

So are you! If you throw some slicks on your nismo you will cut 1.8s easily too. You're damn near doin it on street tires!

What kind of slicks were they?

What size were the slicks and rear wheels.

That's a great 60 foot time... Congratulations!

I know they were 16 inch M/T slicks but I'm not sure their exact sizes.

omg.. i forgot to mention to you.. you might want to be careful, I noticed when you were launching the car was squatting down and rubbing your fenders on the slicks. I'm sure you would have been able to run better if that wasn't happening.

Its a nice change huh Russel. Once you goto slicks or drags you wont want to run anything else. Glad you had a good time. You will make 12's

wow, really? I knew I was getting decent weight transfer but I didn't realize I was squatting that hard!

Thanks Ty! Todd, you and I need to all hit the track at the same time on a nice cool day and get 12s together, lol!

I tell you this much I will not put my car on the drag strip again unless I either buy a set of slicks for myself or Alberto lets me use his set again!

I know it's a drive, but you could come down to Houston. Always a few Z's at the Houston raceway when I go.

And congratulations to rkemp1! That 8K redline must be nice.

with slicks what would be a good 60ft?

and what are other HRs in your area running? since some have reported low 13s stock.

It's about a 6 hour long drive there 1 way. I was planning on going there to set my PB, but not anymore - gas is too high and my times are good enough for now.

I'd say anything under 1.9 is presentable.
