First time at the track with my '03 Touring Z
Well, I ran my car at the local drag strip Friday night. It was definitely an experience! I can see myself going back often...
The only mod on my car right now is a JWT Popcharger. However, after sitting in the line of cars for about 20min before running, I could tell that heat soak was an issue for me. My first time was... 14.97 @ 92mph. I was very nervous, and wasn't ready for the light to go green, and bogged the launch, and missed 2nd gear. Oh yeah, and hit the rev limiter in 3rd. Good times. However, each run got progressively better. My best, was: REACTION ---- 0.1131 60 FT ---- 2.0417 330 FT ---- 5.9264 1/8 ET ---- 9.0964 1/8 MPH ---- 77.33 1000 ET ---- 11.8127 1/4 ET ---- 14.1023 1/4 MPH ---- 98.79 My 60' time kept getting better with each run, and if I could've gotten another run in, I'm positive that I could've got a sub 2.0 60' time. Also, I think I could've dipped down into the 13's. I was VERY surprised how well the car was hooking up. I was launching at 4000 - 4500 rpm, and the tires were slightly squeeking through first gear. I plan on going back in a couple weeks, and trying it again! -Tim |

Cool man not bad for your first time out. I ran 13.8 my first time out ever in my stock automatic Z. With practice I'm sure you'll be posting better times soon.

You have the first 60 feet down pat. The rest will work itself out.

I wish the track would hook up for me that well too! Not a bad start for a beginner.

Thanks for the comments!
Just to clarify, I am on the stock clutch, and it's not slipping at all. I was launching at 4k, but for about the first 5 feet I was slipping it, then pretty much just dumping it. It just hooked up and went. I actually felt like there was more left in it too. Next time I go back I will see how far I can push it. I think this track was just prepped REALLY well. It was super sticky on the line. The last run I was powershifting, and the tires screeched in 2nd, 3rd, AND 4th gear, so that definitely tells me that my clutch is strong. BTW, my first launch was a 2.2 60'. It gradually progressed to that 2.0. I was getting better with every run, but then they closed the track down at 11pm... Can't wait to go back! Tim |

Actually, I was running 245/40/18s @ 35psi. Maybe the JL Stealth Box was adding some extra weight over the rear tires and causing it to hook good?I do know that I will dip down under a 2.0 60' next time. -Tim |

Why is it that this VAST FLAT DESOLATE land I live on doesn't have a 1/4 mile track anymore...all we have is 1/8mile...oh what fun I get to go 77mph...LAME.
oh, sorry...good runs OP. 2.0 60 ft is good on stock trim. clutch smell after all that?

i got the same run 13.8 with intake exhaust and spacer, with a 2.1 60 ft. and a 101 trap on my 19's with a 35 sidewall and shitty ass nitto 555's, going back for more wednesday, also this was my second time at the track, but 4,000-4500 launch are you kidding, i was feathering out from 2500 rpm, i would just sit there and spin if i launched that high. no way!! are you riding the clutch out or somethin, numbers seem little fudged

Update:
Went back to the track last friday night. The weather was very cool, and the cooler it got, the worse the track got... I started out pulling my usual 2.0* 60' times, but from there, it went downhill. Here was my best run: REACTION ---- 0.0128 <--- I've got that part down. Very consistent on the tree 60 FT ---- 2.1432 <--- Track was getting slick, that was launching at 3k 330 FT ---- 5.9270 1/8 ET ---- 9.0461 1/8 MPH ---- 79.24 1000 ET ---- 11.7232 1000 MPH --- 92.08 1/4 ET ---- 13.9762 1/4 MPH ---- 100.11 FINALLY broke into the 13's, and I was happy, yet disappointed that I didn't have my usual 2.0 60' time, because it would've been further into the 13's. After that run, the best 60' time I could muster was a 2.25 - 2.3*, so I called it a night. My friend went with me, and took his 2006 Mustang GT 5mt with K&N Intake and a Diablo programmer, and could only run a 14.2* @ 100mph. I felt good knowing that the Z can outrun a GT that has more mods than I do. I hope to go back one more time this year, but on a Sunday afternoon, so that the track will be better, and get further into the 13's. Wow, I was looking through my photobucket album, and ran across an old time slip from a car I used to own 3 years ago.
It was a 2005 RSX-S, and was wrong wheel drive (FWD). This run was done on street tires, so it was really bad, and I didn't have much experience drag racing... Here is the time: REACTION ---- 0.4276 <--- LOL 60 FT ---- 2.3836 330 FT ---- 8.3746 1/8 ET ---- 9.3416 1/8 MPH ---- 85.15 1000 ET ---- 11.7984 1000 MPH --- 101.35 1/4 ET ---- 13.8413 1/4 MPH ---- 111.00 Compare that to my Z time from last friday: REACTION ---- 0.0128 60 FT ---- 2.1432 330 FT ---- 5.9270 1/8 ET ---- 9.0461 1/8 MPH ---- 79.24 1000 ET ---- 11.7232 1000 MPH --- 92.08 1/4 ET ---- 13.9762 1/4 MPH ---- 100.11 A few things that are weird, is that I was car number 83 back on 10-29-2005, and last friday night, 10-17-2008, I was also car number 83. Kinda freaky. It was also the same color as my Z.... Compare the 330' times, then compare the speeds, you'll see just how bad traction was in that car. It did pull very hard in the top end though. Mods were: Intake Header Exhaust 100shot N20 Here's a link to that time slip: http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d9...canresized.jpg -Tim |

thats far from a stock rsx, to pull that mph must have been turbo or charged or something im assuming. there is no way a bolt on rsx is gonna pull mile an hour like that, my old srt-4 when it put doen 350whp pulled 110, then 480whp pulled 121, gotta find those time slips not, somewhere around there, anyway my bolt on 03 z just intake and exhaust best mph 102, just read the bottom again and see 100 shot so guess that explains it.

Correct, that was with the 100shot of nitrous. Couldn't spray til ~70mph in 3rd gear, and it would still spin the tires... I was really disappointed with the car. No matter how much power it made, it couldn't put it to the ground, so it was useless.
The Z is just a MUCH better platform to work with. I've only done 1 power mod (popcharger), and I've already ran as quick as the RSX did with nitrous. -Tim |

yeah i def. know how that is, i had to do alot of suspension work in my srt-4 to get it to get out of the hole on drag radials too, i can't compare that to my z though because that was a built car that went 11's when i got rid of it. The Z is a work in progress but soon to be a beast. on shitty street tires went 13.7 with a 2.1 60ft. @ 101 in the z,injen intake and nismo exhaust only, i now have a set of mickey thompson slicks that will be ready and waiting for next year, but i will need them cause i will have twice the power i do right now. i know it still has more though with the shitty tires on it the way it sits, cause i have pulled 2.0 60ft. and pulled 102 on another run so put those all together for a good run and its all of 13.6-13.5 the way it sits now, so thats now bad i figure. Think it will be alot easier to run good consistent times because of the rwd for sure.
