Thumbs up Drag Racing stock 350z

Well I have a 2006 base model 6 speed all stock, and I want to take it out to the drags this coming weekend. I want to know what rpm you guys are launching at(on street tires), what you guys are shifting at, you know the basics. I have searched and can't really find anything about shift points, but I am guessing by looking at dyno sheets that I should shift right around 6300???? Any help or extra tips would be greatly appreciated.

it really depends on many factors... launching on the track and launching on the street is very different... try 3500rpm and shift at redline...

by the way.. check this out http://my350z.com/forum/drag-306/

Launch at whatever RPM is best for you. 2000 2500 3000 3500 RPM. Experiment. Keep a log.

Shift points: When the car is no longer accelerating - shift. This may be at 6,000 or 7,000 RPM for you. I don't know.

I had my best run with my 06 (13.90) with a 3000 rpm clutch dump and shifting at 7-7100rpm. Stock tires which are pretty bald and a 2.1 60'.

if i dump the clutch at 3k i'm pretty sure i'd spin like a mutha. cutting a 2.1 60' with dumping clutch would be pretty good, but i guess only time will tell when i get to the track. awesome time though, congrats. bump for any other tips when i get there ex. tire pressures, burnouts etc.

thanks again for the responses

Ah you guys are right. Just do a quick clutch slip to avoid the clutch pedal sticking to the floor. I had that problem all night.

Don't dump the clutch, you just need to get a feel of how to moderate the clutch and throttle just enough to be at the edge of traction the whole time. Practice is the only thing that will help you here. Shift at as high an RPM as you can.

Alright sorry I took so long to reply with school starting its been hectic. universities waste soo much time. Well I am happy and unhappy at the same time. I ran 15.9 with a 2.6 60' pretty consistent either lauching at idle up to 3000 where i spun...alot. Shifting at 6200 to redline trying different things, and it didn't change much. That was the unhappy part. The happy part is that I was the fastest 350z out there at our track(there were only two of us haha) and I'm all stock and new to the car. Our elevation is 3900 feet here so I think I can still pull at least a 15.5 out of it. I ran 20 pounds of air in the tires, but in a base model with an open diff I only used one at a time ha.

dont run street tires at 20 psi. that prolly contributed to your slowish times

well i ran the first time at 40psi and it spun a whole lot. i dropped to 20 and it still spun but not half as bad. so i think i need 20 or drag radials and snap my axles

i had my street tires at 25psi and i had decent traction.

its def the launch thats hurting you as you do have a 2.6 60'.

i'd say practice your launch on some closed roads, maybe see which works best.

one thing i've noticed is that when i launched at around 1.5K rpm i didnt spin, i got a higher mph but lower ET.
