I had my first shake down of the season. Well I had time to review the data. And, the verdict is in. The car is dramatically faster than 2013. For some reason the best lap I can find is a 1:18.51. But I swear I saw a 1:17.9 flash up? But who cares. Front straight speeds were up to 183.6 from last years best 179.1. So Sasha's tuning knowledge pays off again. But here is the good part, at least to me. Peak grip is down on the tires to a max of 1.26 lateral G. I set those numbers with Hankook RS3s. When I set a 1:18.4, with a fastest rolling lap of 1:17.55 at CSCS4 in 2013 I was setting peak grip of 1.53 consistently. And even then the tires had been used 6 track days. I just wasn't used to R comps previously. So I am eager to get a fresh set of rubber on. In the end, at my power to weight ratio, and those grip levels I think the time is pretty great.

So this is based on grip and power to weight the best technical performance to date.
I just didn't have enough tire to break my overall PB. You can really see the difference new springs make in the handling traits of the car.

2014 Season Stats: 312 rwhp. 1440kg 3175 lbs race weight with driver.
Changes from 2013: Power increase from 280 rwhp to 312 rwhp.
Increase in suspension spring rate from 7K to 12.5K with revalve of Koni Yellows. Not corner balanced.
Slightly heavier due to esthetics and safety. 4 Point roll cage.

Goals.
TMP less than 1:17 in good conditions.
GBR less than 54 in good conditions.
DDT ?????
Road Atlanta Global Time Attack: Don't wreck car, try not to get last place in the Limited Division.
Tire and money permitting do some OTA events and Mosport GP.

This is a great chase video from both perspectives.
The turbo Miata put down a 1:20.0 while chasing me. My data was somehow corrupt while running away.

What does the car weigh now?? Seems like it's pretty much worked out this year eh? Chassis wise, I mean. Looks better.
Your 1:18 looks easy, I think there's more in those tires. Advans?

3175 lbs race weight with driver.

The stiffer springs made a difference. Less squirmey.

This is on end of life R comps. Street tire grip levels.

I think on fresh r comps it will be flirting with 1:16s

Just my predictions.

1:18s weren't easy. I was going ***** to the wall. The car is just less dramatic. I would say 1:20s were easy. 1:19's were good. 1:18s required max effort and no mistakes. max grip from data was only 1.26G which is low.

Cool so 2900 n change. When I said it looked easy I meant you did it easily, not that I could easily do that time.
I agree with fresh rubber and warmer ambient temp you'll put down faster times.
What brake rotors do you have? Did I ask you that already? lol
You should get a cf hatch and a lexan window.

Do you know any of the specs on the Miata? Sounds like it's understeering.

I know, and I'm just saying, it wasn't easy for me. I have the power slot rotors.

I would get CF and Lexan, but classing. Maybe next year.

$hit i just read the post about the new intake making lots of jam thats awesome.
Im going to reconsider doing that. In reality I think the cats and intake are the most important for hp gains and the intake was made to fit the car not to make the most hp. It's way restrictive imo. 40hp gain is huge!
*The Aero rotors will save you some more weight too. When the power slots are toast. Gotcha on the cf and lexan.

Sounds awesome! I see you are still running with no rear bumper. Any plans on making a rear diffuser?

Yes I'll make a carbon diffuser at some point.

But here is my main video from Road Atlanta.
Same thumbnail because it's my coolest pic for now.

Really nice video, thanks for sharing. How was the road trip for you? Talk about an amazing experience for it all. The final turn onto the start / finish takes some serious ***** to get right, no runoff there at all. Major respect to you for going so far to compete.
