Default Mobil 1 5-30w vs 0-20w

I was using Amsoil 0-30w for my car and it was getting too expensive. I belive in changing oil every 3-5Kmi regardless of what brand they are.

Using Amsoil 0-30w make my car feel & idle smoother but because of the price, I changed it to Mobil1 5-30W. I noticed that my car was not as smooth using Mobil 1 so after doing few oil changes, I changed it to Mobil 1 0-20w. I noticed that using 0-20w, it make my car feel & idle smooth again. I also seem to be getting better gas milage. 1-3 mile per gallon. I know that 0-20w is thinner oil than 5-30w which is the reason why I get a better milage.

Just thought I let every know about my experiance.
Try Mobil 1 0-20w it makes a difference.

0-20 seems a little out of specification for vq engine, no?

This is a great web site to learn about the different types & weights of engine oils:

Its just a thinner oil. 0-20w is little more thinner oil than the
5-30W. Lots of auto maker are starting to use thinner oil because it give better gas millage. As car gets older you should start putting thicker oil but in a new car, I don't think it will make much difference other than smoother idling and better gas mileage.

According to Mobil1, 10W-30 and 5W-30s are recommended for the VQ35.

Mobil1 says 0W-20 is recommended where the manufacturers specified 0W-20 or 5W-20.

As for thinner oil, you really need it at the start-up cos it flows better at cold temp. Once the eng temp is rising, oil starts to become thin. And that's sort what you don't want. Thicker oil would allow better protection. But again, too thick and more energy is wasted to move the parts. That's why thinner oil provides better gas mileage.

0W-30 probably would be a better choice over 0W-20
