Default Check engine code p1283????

Okay, lately I have been getting a code after my unichip installed. I'm getting 2 codes, p1283 twice. The obd2 reader says 2 of 2 codes which was the same. It explained it was a manufacture control fuel air metering???? What does that mean?

The mods I have so far are:
spacers
kinetix cats
borla exhaust
ur pulleys
intake
headers
unichip

So is this due to my cats???

it is actually one of the upsteam A/F sensors (cant remember if it is bank 1 or bank 2). I would think maybe you are going too rich or too lean. Without a snapshot (freezeframe) data of the fault it will be hard to diagnose

i did some search and it's bank 2. Not sure how it can go too lean when I just got it tuned. I was told the A/F was around 12.3-12.6

Make sure you don't have any intake or exhaust leaks. I had this code, and I suppose the front O2 sensor or what is called Air Flow sensor (wide band) on 04.5+ models is detecting a lean shift on the driver's side. It is detected usually when cruising at around 2k rpm. When you are done checking for intake/exhaust leaks, take out the ECU 15amp fuse in the battery compartment simultaneously with the 10 amp ECU fuse in the driver side fuse box for 10 minutes. I think you should be fine after doing that. Hope this helps

Btw, just for future reference, when you get 2 of the same code, one usually has a Pd next to it. All that means is that it was pending in the ECU memory before it confirmed it and threw threw the SES light.

I had the same problem when I had the APS installed on my 2004.5.
Nothing cleared it until I installed test pipes.
I still don't have a clear answer to the problem.

I took a closer look at my headers and found that 1 of the bolts was missing on the passenger side. Can that cause a leak if only 6/7 bolts were on the passenger side headers?

Yes, that is very likely. Check the torque on all your bolts. Header and test pipe/cat to header bolts. The leak is right before or right after the upstream sensor.

I thought it was missing bolts but I found out that each side of the headers only have 6 bolts but the wierd thing is there are 8 holes for each headers.

I havent thrown any codes since I erased it with the obd2 scanner and drove about 25 miles so far. I even tighten the intake manifold down and reinstalled my pop charger so hopefully that was it.

If I remember correctly, when I put in my headers there were 8 studs for the 8 nuts on the driver side, and 7 studs & 7 nuts on the passenger side + 1 bolt. That adds to 8 on each side if I remember correctly.

Also, be careful with the plenum, make sure you use an inch pound torque wrench so you don't over torque. I torqued my plenum with the spacer to 100 inch pounds all around, and 60 inch pounds for the 6 bolts in the middle.

I hope you don't get the light back, but my experience has been that you will if the leaks aren't taken care of and the ECU isn't reset by removing the afore mentioned fuses.

Good luck

I have been through much heartache with that code. Check for leaks along the exhaust. My issue turned out to be leaks after the cats, at flanges and welds. Had this issue 3 times. All 3 were leak issues.

freak, the lite came on again. I have been noticing a loud sqeechin sound coming from around the header/cat area when the car has been warmed up or driven (not when it's cold). Wierd thing is when I place a towel against the driver side of the cat and press against the cat, the noise disappears. Also, are u suppose to be able to smell some exhaust fumes from the engine bay? I can smell a little exhaust fumes coming from the front near the driver side of the headers.

Default Same issue

Sorry... I need a new smartphone. Hit submit twice before actually typing anything. Yes, i have an 04' touring with few owners, gentle miles (mostly and ive had the p1283 code repeat 3 times. I think my cars issue is an un-restricted exhaust with an O2 sensor completely gone... As in removed. Have'nt checked for leaks yet but it also smells rich on warmup. Hopefully we can get advice. Feel your pain. The thing is annoying.

If you physically removed an O2 sensor you will throw codes like crazy. Get a tune.

Its my lucky day

For some reason this is not in my Haynes repair manual... Im going to guess I have a exhaust leak in my catalytic converters because I ghetto patched some hairline cracks in them a few months ago and I wasnt nice last time I installed my exhaust system.

Well it seems like a once a year visit for me wtf.

Last year I replaced all 02 sensors, headers, cats, all new gaskets. It's been off for 3k miles. Just popped back on today.

Default I am having the same problem.

I am having the exact same problem with my car. I replaced all the o2 sensors and this code keeps coming up. I’ll clear it and it’ll go away for a week and will come right back, I have no idea what it is that is causing one side of the cylinders to go lean. I definitely don’t smell exhaust fumes coming from the engine bay so it can’t be an exhaust leak.
