Stop using 0w stuff, it's pointless for you, stick to a 5w or 10w for where you live.

Oddly, Fram oil filters are back being decent quality again, pick either of the top two filter levels in their range.

You can have thick and thin oils of the same 'rating' - for example, my engine doesn't like Castrol Edge 5w30, on the viscosity scale, it's a very thin oil whilst still being with the spec of 5w30 - whereas Penzoil yellow bottle is a much thicker oil whilst still being a 5w30 - i use that otherwise i just get exhaust smoke when the engine is hot.

Personally i don't recommend you use a 50, it's too much, you could blow out seals and/or break a pump etc. It's not as common here in the states, but feel free to try a 10w40 oil if you need more high temp ability in the oil - the best way to find out if you're worried about protection in the heat, is to submit the UOA and they can tell you if the oil is still protecting and still adhering to it's specification at the high temp viscosity.

For Giggles, here's my 2006 G35 with the remanufactured long-block replacement from the first TSB addressing the oil consumption issue back in that day for revup VQ's. Nothing but Amsoil Sig Series. 5w-30 on sample #1 and #2, 10w-30 on sample #3 and #4. EaO filter on all samples. 7qt ARC oil pan on sample #3 to present.
