Well this has been a busy year for me, and my Quaife that I purchased from Z1 has been sitting in my parent's garage for over 1/2 a year. Yesterday I FINALLY installed it.

The differential is a Quaife built by Z1. I had them install the differential with all new internals.

This was a job that I wanted to do from start to finish, but after much research, I figured I would let the professionals at least put the pumpkin together.

Saturday I removed the cover, installed the Z1 extended diff cover and Whiteline bushings, and Sunday I went at it with a buddy of mine.

The only real issue we had was removing the rear diff bushing, as expected. I used the Z1 remover, which removed the bushing fairly easy and quickly. When it came to removing the sleeve, I got it about 1/4 out with the tool then said screw it and cut it out with a dremel.

From start to finish, the job was about 7 hours, which included a lot of breaks. The biggest problem we had was working underneath the car with just using jack stands. Last time I changed my diff it took maybe 4 hours, but that was with a lift and I didn't change the rear bushing.

Now onto the fun stuff. How much better is this differential? Holy crap.

This took so long to go in because I have been toying around the idea of getting a new car, as my love for my Z has dwindled as of late. Let's just say that the Quaife has renewed my love for this car.

I want it to break in more before I really get on it, but the way I can put the power down around turns and the way the solid bushings feel, this thing is amazing.

I highly recommend this upgrade to anybody that has this car. I have been through the stock open diff, VLSD, and now Quaife, and the difference between the VLSD and Quaife is much more substantial than the open diff to the VLSD.

But after yesterday tracking with some beat tires. Then VLSD openness is even more evident as I'm spinning a single tire around every turn and can not put down the power for ****. I need to make this purchase but it's more then I make in a month lol
I'm a young parent so I don't have the income most this site has. Guess it'll have to wait

i got really lucky on mine.... guy was trading his car in, we did a whole pumpkin swap. so for $350 i got a quaife and nismo finned cover.

It took me a while to finally pull the trigger, but it is by far my favorite mod yet.

I kind of hate you lol

Yea I know, but I still felt the need to put some miles on it before putting a beating on it.

Went for a ride last night and had a little fun. Boy this thing is awesome! My favorite part the how predictable it is. The way it grips is amazing. Finally my Michelin Pilot Super Sports are getting used properly.

I raced at Autoclub Speedway Sunday and I was more annoyed at the VLSD then ever


Spinning one tire on every exit or any time I put the gas. I was spinning on some exits going over 80. Smh

the price seems steep for completely new pumpkin.

Yea I got everything from Z1. It was well worth the price. Not only is the diff amazing, but the customer service from Z1 was amazing. They kept me in the loop and had a fast turnaround time when they built it.

Nothing but amazing experience with Z1 on all my purchases with them.

what was the total out the door? about 2k?

With shipping the diff to them and having it shipped back plus labor it was around that. A little under 2k

thats really not bad for a brand new bad *** diff. especially if someone is not comfortable cutting the half shaft or shimming it

Mine is like 2300 or 2500 cause I'm in SoCal


But even at that price I can't find a local shop that can do the same for cheaper. Pretty crazy

I'm pretty mechanically inclined...does anyone know if it's easy to self assemble and clean everything like it's brand new?

if you are comfortable doing it, just buy the diff itself.
