Was hoping to get a little diagnostic advice on a potential clutch issue on my 05 Z with roughly 50,000 miles...
Recently when I depress my clutch I have been getting a sound that sounds kind of like someone is knocking on my dash from under the hood. The sound goes away when I release the clutch pedal. It doesn't matter what position the shifter is in--depressing the clutch will cause this noise to happen, even if the shifter is in neutral. I mostly notice it at low speeds, but that's probably because the exhaust drowns it out at higher speeds. I've done some searching but haven't been able to find anything that matches these symptoms exactly. Some similar symptoms I've found deal with a bad throwout bearing--is it possible that is what I could be looking at? The sound is pretty difficult to describe... I'd call it a knocking or ticking sound. The ticks are pretty rapid and short with probably 3 or 4 ticks per second. Thanks in advance. |

could be a problem with the throwout bearing or pressure plate

is it a stock clutch/flywheel cause most aftermarket tend to have an annoying chatter.
Otherwise a throwout bearing is the most likely problem.

Thanks for the replies. It's a stock clutch.
Is this something that I should worry about getting replaced or is it just an annoyance? I've seen differing opinions when searching around on here and on google... I had the car at the dealer a month or so ago and told them about the noise but they "didn't hear anything." |
