Default Got a couple of transmission questions...

So i have a 2003 Nissan 350z and recently, when I shift from 4th to 5th it grinds a little but it still goes in. I've looked into it with a friend mechanic that specializes in transmissions and he said that he could fix it but i would have to buy all the syncros brand new. So my question is, can my transmission be fixed? or do i need to buy a brand new one? MY Z also has65,000 miles on it. Could it be possible that its still under warranty? Thanks.

Moved to proper forum

Not sure if you can even buy transmission internals, but like everything else, the sum of the individual parts would probably cost you a lot more than a new/used or rebuilt transmission.

If you want to look at parts... CLICK HERE

The drivetrain warranty is 5 years/ 60,000 miles.

You have an 03, it's almost 2010, you are out of warranty. You will more then likely be better off buying a used one. You are not alone. I'm on my 4th. Search around, there are tons of thread on thsi problem that will answer ALL your questions.

Just the last couple of weeks I've notice a slight 5th gear grind when shifting from 6th to 5th at low rpm. If I rev match carefully it won't happen. I am very easy on the tranmission. After having searched, it sounds like my 5th gear syncro is going bad.

Question: I have an 06 with about 35k miles on it. The grind doesn't affect driving at all, but it does bother me. Am I better off waiting for it to get worse and get closer to the end of the 5yr/50k warranty, or am I better off seeing if the dealer will replace the tranny now and give me some time to drive the new tranny to make sure that it doesn't fail right away?

LOL, actually i looked back at my paperwork, i'm on my third not fourth.

The first was already on it's way out the day i bought my car, but i knew what was up and was able to reflect it in the price i paid, and then take it back the next day and get her replaced under warranty. Then the second tranny (CD008) had the pilot bushing go in roughly 2,000 ish miles of having it installed! And my current tranny has 25,000ish miles on it, 20,000 of that is FI, and have had zero issues.
