Default Electric problem with my Z..dagnosis?

Lately in the mornings, the following randomly happens:

I'll just be driving, and the lights will go off. My traction control stops working, and it stays that way until I restart the car. Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening, and how to fix it?

If it helps, it's usually in the mornings or late at night when the car has been off for a while and I take it out to go somewhere. Sometimes it happens when I accelerate quickly and sometimes it happens when I brake aggressively. Also, sometimes under aggressive braking, the brake light will come on, but turn back off when I let off the brake some (not the handbrake)

I'm taking my car in for the 60k service next week, but wanted to see if you guys could figure it out before then.

Jkim1978, this is a common occurrence with many makes of cars. As the brake pads wear down the caliper pistons extend out to adjust for the wear. This lowers the level of brake fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir. There is a float in the master cylinder reservoir that triggers the brake warning light.

It sounds like your float is just on the verge of the low level, and hard acceleration shifts the fluid just enough to put it over the line. Check the fluid level, if it’s low, adding a little fluid will stop the light from coming on. More importantly, check the amount of wear on brake pads as they may be approaching the wear limits.
