Just Another LSX Swap
A lot of history that led to this. I had a 98 Trans Am that I rebuilt from the ground up and had a fully build LS1 to throw in it, but issues led me to not be able to use it after 3 years of rebuilding it. After that I started looking for a swap car and was looking at 240's until I found a Z pop up down the street from me for a decent price and the color I wanted which made me change my mind on the 240. The Z currently has ~189K on it and still runs strong! Only thing that I don't like is that it does not have Brembos, but I guess I'm just being picky.
I was going to throw in my forged motor in the car, but didn't want just a N/A car for this build. I have wanted to push some boost through a LSx for some time now, and with the motor I built compression would be too high and the aluminum block would not like that at all. So, I sold that motor and bought all of the swap kit and picked up a LM7 (5.3 vortec) which is in the LSx family. Don't know how much you guys know about the LSx series, but the truck blocks are strong up to around 700hp on the stock bottom end! And they're cheap! Paid $600 for complete engine.
If anyone wants a documented cost of this swap with the cheaper iron block please just let me know and I will be more than happy to help as I am tracking it myself, but with the $600 block compared to a couple thousand for a LS1/2/6 it makes this swap more attainable. There are a bunch of internals that should be swapped out as well though.
Using the Sikky kit to swap in and have everything pretty much ordered and figured out except for fueling. I am newish to 350z's and haven't torn down the car yet to look at the stock fueling system. Do they run a returnless system like the LS's? What regulator is everyone running? Is the regulator 100% necessary? Haven't dealt with much fueling before.
Parts List
-LM7 (Vortec 5.3)
-LS6 Z06 cam
-LS6 Intake
-LS2 Timing Chain
-Ported LS6 Oil Pump
-LS9 Head Gaskets
-LS7 Lifters
-LS2 Lifter Trays
-Head Studs
-Built T-56
-Sikky Swap Kit
-Sikky Master Cylinder
-Chase Bays Swap Harness
-FAST Fuel Rails
-Tach for Swap (Need Brand Recommendations)
Parts in bold are here, non bold I'm waiting on or have not ordered.
This set up is being built for boost which is why I went with the Z06 cam which will be good for both set ups. A procharger will hopefully be on by the end of next winter!

Nice! Welcome to the Z/GM world! Daytona Blue is the best! .
For the Tach, look up Speethut. If you're not keeping the Nissan ECU for factory gauge purposes, then this is the easiest route and looks great (check my build thread in this sub-forum for pics).
For fueling, the Z is returnless and is regulated at the fuel rail on the motor. The stock fuel pump will work for anything at stock LSx power levels, but anything more should utilize an upgrade. I used a Corvette fuel filter (WIX-33737) (you may know all of this coming from a GM background) to maintain a returnless*, regulated system for the stock GM fuel rail. This has worked great for me so far.
*The filter requires a return line run to the tank. This is very easy to do and I give you any more information if you need it.
This link is your 350z bible for all things related: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/350Z/
Feel free to ask me any questions about the swap and I'll do my best to help.

The PCM will be the Delco(GM) one, so I know I will have to retrofit in the tach, just didn't know which brand was best. I will probably stick with the returnless system, just didn't know 100% how to make it work only had ideas. I'll probably utilize my FAST fuel rails and just run the line from the rail to the line, I already bought the crossover and compression fitting for the fuel line.

Definitly a lot of variety in the LSx world, the benefits of the iron block far outweigh the weight gain that it has over the LS1/2/6

Nice! Always exciting getting parts.
Should be able to get at least $700 for the stock gearbox (I assume your Z is an 06?)
Clutch, probably not a lot
Driveshaft should get you somewhere around $150
I see you're in Frederick! I'm not far from you at all if you need any help!

It's an 07. I was planning on asking like $1500 for engine and trans, but they will probably be split up. It also has a Jim Wolf stage 1 clutch from what the prior owner was telling me, said to have about 10k on it.
