302 from an 85 mustang swap
Anyone know anything about anyone trying this? Dad and I are getting ready to pull one from his bronco and I've tossed the idea around about throwing it in the car.

You want to go back to an old SBF? Doesn't really make sense. Without a build-up it won't be much stronger than the VQ, and if you are gonna build it you could swap in an LS for the same money and make more power. Ford motors work but are much more expensive to make the same power on compared to a chevy.

the first thing you should know about it is the engine as is will be making about half the power of the v6 from the start. they dont make a t-56 that bolts to it so your transmission options are auto, t5 which hits its limit at around 300 whp, or a tko-600/similar. if you want to get decent power from it a set of heads, cam, intake, full exhaust, carb or fuel injection conversion should get you about 325 whp. if its a standard 5.0 then thats about all your gona get on stock internals, if its a H.O.(ones that had 210 hp instead of 170) then it will have forged internals and can stick a pro charger or similar on for 500 whp. all in all its really not worth the cost to swap unless you have all the above parts already or can get them for next to nothing. retail for the 325 whp your looking at about 4500-5k total plus your transmission option plus actually building all the custom stuff to swap it in, plus having a custom driveshaft made.
thats also assuming the engine is currently in decent condition with under 100k miles, which i highly doubt, more then likely it needs at least a re ring and new bearings
not really sure which you have ho or non ho because the name of the thread says mustang and in your post it says bronco, they are both very different engines more then likely the bronco would have the non ho and the mustang will have the ho with forged internals.

not really, with the 5.0 and even chevy engines at the time it was during the massive "oh no emissions!" crunch with systems just being developed which meant really low power outputs,
the ls on the other hand was the first true performance engine to be able to bypass that limitation and start returning to the power levels of yor... and you could find them everywhere because GM makes so many vehicles and uses the same architecture on everything. LS swaps began almost as soon as the engines came out, well as soon as they started hitting junkyards from crash's.
