Default Quick question about Walbro fuel pump

After upgrading injectors my tuner is recommending definitely goin ahead and upgrading the fuel pump as well. Went ahead and got the walbro 255lph gss342 pump. Now my tuner is recommending buying a separate Oem assembly to replace, I guess, the internals? (Sending unit, regulator, etc).

For those of you with upgraded pumps, was that necessary for you to do or should I be good with just the walbro pump? Hate to spend money if it's not necessary.

The walbro pump I ordered comes with the install kit. My car is a 2008 w/ ~72k miles now.

My Stillen sc kit came with that same Walbro 255 pump with the larger injectors but nothing else like you mentioned; car runs like a top.

no he hasn't. he's still saying that, without a doubt, i need to go ahead and replace the whole assembly (filter, etc).

im just full bolt on HR, tune & 600cc injectors. was hitting 91% duty cycle with stock injectors so got these to give me room in case i did anything larger in the future.

Walbros have a bad rap in other circles.

I have experience with fuel pumps, not Walbro, but the conclusion has always been OEM or OEM manufacturer (ex get the Chrysler pump for the Ram or use the Denso unit, who is the OEM supplier and can be verified as so).

After trying two other pumps (one went in but had a bad sending unit, the other was bad out of the box - likely QC/packaging which was abysmal), I ended up with the Denso unit which was identical in every way to the OEM pump. In that example there were several design variations between each pump, not to mention the sending unit (which is incorporated into that pump) is a sensitive assembly and itself prone to failure. Since the resistance range usually calibrated to set parameters in the ECU, if something goes out of spec it may confuse the computer and throw a code.

edit of course you need a bigger pump so your options are somewhat limited...

I would suggest a fuel return rather.

How much power you wanting or putting down, Do you have a FRS? My 255 went in with no problems, all you have to do is trim off the 3 tabs on the bottom of the pump and it goes right in.

You should be absolutely fine with just the Walbro 255. It is good generally up to the 550hp range. If you outgrow the 600cc injectors then it will probably be time to go to an even bigger pump, but otherwise the Walbro will do anything you could expect and it is VERY reliable. I know Z1 and Forged both use that pump on most mild to mid-level FI builds they do and I have never heard of anyone having any issues with it.
