Maybe its the fact that the diff is turning 1/3 faster than stock.... Did you ever look underneath and notice it glowing red?

What do you think he could have messed up?

No I didn't car ran and responded fine to the gears. I checked and the drive shaft is still spinning so I'm really hoping it's just the diff that blew and not the trans

Diffs have to be installed and set PERFECT. Backlash, etc has to be spot on. I bought a used diff once, and the installer forgot to loctite the ring gear bolts which caused a bolt to come out, get lodged between the housing and the ring gear and boom... diff blew.

But it's hard to say what caused it. It's easy to open it up and look though. So do that and post some pics.

Back lash, pinion depth, torque on the bolts, bearings not pressed on right, bearing cap bolt torque, lock tite, not enough fluid. Quite a few things.

Turns out it was the factory LSD that failed

So how did it fail? Post a pic or something.

Or did the shop tell you that so they're covered for their install mistake lol

Was the coast side of the gears beveled like that before you installed? Cause it looks like its been chewed up by the pinion.

None of these pics conclusively show that its the actual differential that failed, just a chewed up ring gear, metal shavings, and the flange in the diff is seriously chewed up. Did the driveshaft fail? Or is that mark from you prying it off? edit i mean the mark on the little flange/ring that is loose but is normally supposed to be pressed up against the tone ring

Thanks for the pics, still looks like install error to me.

Do you plan on opening the differential itself?
