Driving today on the highway temperature gauge needle stayed at a quarter of the meter (AC off). Turned the AC on and needle moved to half point. As soon as I noticed I powered off the AC and temperature went back down to normal point. Got to work and i let the car sit with AC blasting for 10mins and temperature didn't move up. Both fans are operating.

Coolant is fresh. Thermostat was replaced in March.

I asked several mechanics including Nissan's technician and they all said half point is fine as long as it doesn't go over. My issue is my temp has never read halfway.

Any input would be appreciated.

Might clean out your condenser. Get more airflow through to the radiator.

The temp gauge should be about in the middle of its range. Sounds like it was too low before, though. Are you using the OEM thermostat, or did you do a ricer mod and install one with a lower temp?

Thank you, I'll check into that.

Just got on my lunch break. Drove the car for about 20 minutes with the AC on and so far temperature has maintained normal.

Thermostat is OEM. The temp needle points right in between the seat belt indicator and open door indicator.

This really sounds OK to me. A/C puts additional heat into the system, and you're still well within normal limits, so I'd just keep an eye on it.

I never see my gauge move once it gets to normal temp. A/C on, heat on, sitting still or going 100mph.

I don't really watch mine that closely, and here in FL, I can't remember the last time I had the A/C turned off. Winter is coming, though.

I'll guess I'll keep my eye on it.
Left it on for about an hour and a half and maintain normal temp.

Ok so pretty much the same thing today but I did notice something. With AC on once I hit 75 to 80 mph the temp needle hit half way and then it went back to normal once I decreased in speed. Temperature outside was at 90.

middle is normal but you may have a little bit of air in your system...

I'll bleed the system just to be sure.

But is it normal for the needle to fluctuate from below half to actual half ?

I have another temp gauge installed on my car. My digital temp gauge will go from 150-210 and the oem temp gauge needle still sits in the same place. Im pretty sure they aren't very "accurate"

I noticed under hard accel my temp would go up on my laptop but the needle stayed the same.

Aside from the possibility of air being in the system could my thermostat be going bad ?
