Going to buy JDM motor&tranny $3300 opinion?
hello there,
i'm in need of a motor due to mine having a knock. i'm going to keep the old one and eventually build it but for now, will be buying a used one. i was looking at JDM setups from Japan and i found a listing on EBAY for $3300 for the motor, tranny, and some extra goodies. since it's from Japan, they said i can just use my old wiring harness due to theirs being for a right hand drive car. i understand that it is a used motor and of course there's no such thing as knowing what you're going to get. but these guys seem pretty legit. they have a 100% positive feeback.
the reason i am looking at a new tranny as well is because the previous owner really beat the S*** out of it.
i guess i'm trying to decide if it's worth it getting this setup from a big company as opposed to getting it from some guy. these motors from over there are guarenteed to run and have a 6 month waranty.
here is the website http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-Infiniti-G35-VQ35DE-3-5L-Engine-6speed-Transmission-Nissan-Skyline-2003-2007-/111596208444?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19fba7013c&vxp=mtr
what are your opinions??

Word.
Who is going to offer you warranty service stateside?
The only reason to go JDM - IMO - is to obtain something that you cannot get here in the states, say, an RB26DETT or something along those lines.
Other problem you will run into is smog controls. If the engine isn't US domestic, it's POSSIBLE that you will not be able to smog it (or at the least, you may have to involve a referee to smog certify).
Note: I am NOT saying it's impossible because I know several people running JDM motors and are smog legal, even here in smog conscious California; just a warning.
There are SO MANY stateside sources for replacement engines that I don't see the benefit of going overseas. Dunno where you are but here in California, we have "Recycle Road" up in Rancho Cordova that have a lot of yards that specialize in all different types of cars. You might Google that up or other ones closer to you.
EDIT: OK, I see that this is a stateside biz so maybe it's OK but I would still check local laws to see if using an engine NOT ORIGINALLY built for NA market will fly. It might if all normal emissions devices are on it.

Hes in SC with me. no emission checks. We are the exact opposite of Commifornia.
Still...if its not the 380rs motor and just another vq35de...then you are paying for something that has no real value except to say you have a "jdm" motor.

damn.. a little high on the mileage. and i don't mind too much if it's on craigslist. as long as it's from a wrecked car or doesn't have too many miles.

A bit more expensive then I wanted to go
So I ended up buying a brand new long lock from Nissan. Just OE replacement so it's still a DE. I really REALLY regret not pulling the tranny with the motor. But I ended up taking it out anyways for easy install. It was a pain just cause of how humid my garage was but it's finally done. Already got like 400 miles on the motor ready to go to myrtle beach for NOPI Nationals. Here are some pics
