Smile 03 Clutch change

Just dropped my 03 350z at my buddy's shop. I'm going to list the parts that are going in to make things clear. Exedy lightweight SM flywheel, Exedy Stage one racing clutch kit. reinforced clutch fork with pivot ball from concept Z performance, Dorman CS650096 Slave Cylinder, Stainless steel braided clutch line and a hks rep cat-back exhaust.. I will reply back to how I fell about the performance gains to overall fell of the new parts in the car.

I did however have one question and i still haven't found a great answer yet. My tranny is getting very notchy. I figuring that it my be since my clutch is going out this might fix it. I'm praying its not the synchros. Mostly feel it in 3rd gear which I've heard is the first to usually go. I will be switching fluids after i put in my new clutch/parts to see if it will making shifting any easier.

My Question is which fluid to go with. Ive been reading up on Redline shockproof 75w90 and Royal purple max gear 75w90. Witch one would be best for the smooth shifting. I dont want to pick just any trans fluid so that's why I'm asking the question.
Also I know my grammer sucks so i dont need to know cause i already do.

redline.... . if that doesn't help, replace the tranny, and not with Kaitlyn Jenner

^^^^ But Trav, Caitlyn Jenner is the most famous tranny out there.

But yeah, OP, Redline MT-85 is the only fluid with the correct friction modifiers to allow for smoother shifting while retaining enough friction to aid the synchros in doing their job.

However, while it's good fluid - and more people swear by it - it's not the panacea for fixing worn synchros but *MAY* help to delay the inevitable tranny change. {===YSWIDT?

Mic is exactly right about Redline MT85- it's the right product for our syncromesh six-speed trannys. Using the Redline shockproof 75-90W would not be as good- it's formulated for use in dog ring racing trannys that have different needs. And the Royal Purple product you mention sounds like it's formulated for use in diffs and the pressure additives will literally EAT the softer metals in a tranny.

Not sure which catalog you're quoting from, but here's a link to Redline's online product catalog with additional info:

http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=140&pcid=7

Look around; I'm sure there are better prices out there.

Instead of a tran change wouldn't rebuilding the tran be cheaper? I got a friend who can do it if i bring him the parts. But I'm guessing I'm gonna need more than just synchro rings to rebuild the gearbox??...

Opening a tranny is a job for a specialist. They'll need to inspect the main and output shafts. If either are worn, you'll need to replace them along with bearings, shift forks, syncros and any miscellaneous seals or bearings.

Just got all my parts in. Loving my z once again. I can actually drive around not being nervous about my **** stock clutch. I did notice however after I got done breaking everything in. I noticed a smell and I'm not sure if its the clutch or something else. It doesn't smell exactly like a burning clutch. Usually a burning clutch smells like fish. But something does smell. I did however shorten my clutch travel. This is a link to the thread. I only shortened mine 1 turn compared to people turning 3-6 times.

I was wondering if my clutch is staying engaged? How can I tell if it is? I did put my car in gear on a flat surface and didn't move forward. So I'm guessing that's not the case. I do know how to drive stick Im going easy as hell on the clutch rn. The clutch does bite really hard so I am getting used to it. But anyone who could give me some tips would be great. Trying to keep my clutch in for as long as i can. My clutch engages as soon as i put my foot on the pedal and push. It has no play in the pedal like a stock Z would have. The new setup fells great and maybe I'm just freaking out but never hurts to ask.
