Plug and Play High Output Alternator
I'm researching high output alternators and I'm seeing some conflicting info after searching the threads. Some are saying you can just drop these right in, others are saying you need a new belt, others are saying you need an underdrive belt (not sure why you'd want to underdrive a high output alt).
As far as I understand the high output alternator is just the stock part rewound. Is this correct? It is simply a plug and play part and the car will regulate it's own voltage draw? Any other parts needed?
Looks like there's some good Mechman ones out there for about $450. Anyone use these?
If anyone has any input I'd like to hear it.

I personally would never purchase a Mechman product. Some people love em but I just have a personal issue with the guy and his customer service practices.
I've ran Excessive Amperage's stuff for years without any problems. Sent Nathan and email and see what he can do for you.

Wish I had seen your post, did some outside research and pulled the trigger on a Mechman 270 amp alternator based on solid reviews.
It does say this about it: "This unit comes equipped with a smaller 1.75 inch diamter alternator pulley, and will require a slightly shorter drive belt for proper belt tension."
Anyone got a part number for the appropriate belt for this application, or the correct overall length of the belt required so I can special order it?

Just get one of these alternators:
https://www.dcpowerinc.com/high-outp...3.5L+V6+VQ35DE
These are truly plug and play with no need for a new belt; multiple users (including myself) have used these alternators and can vouch for its performance.
But if you insist on using the other alternator, it should in theory be possible to unbolt the pulley of the oem alternator and bolt it on to that new alternator.

If he puts the stock size pulley on it, it probably wont spin fast enough at idle to charge.
How big is the stock pulley? Might just have to go to the parts store and see if they can match up a belt that is just slightly smaller. Maybe 1/4-1/2" or so. Our tensioner has a lot of adjustment to it.

I just had the Mechman alt installed.
Everything was good yesterday and now on a freeway drive the voltage kicked around between 12 and 14.4.
Brake light and battery light flickered for a while and now are both solid.
Bad voltage regulator on the new alternator?
A new belt was installed with the alternator. I had a shop do it so at least I have a professional install behind it.
