Default Post accident trans damage

I ran over a tire tread on the nj Parkway doing about 85 mph a week ago. In addition to a cracked radiator the mechanic just informed me that the horrendous grinding sound I heard after the accident was my transmission ('03 350z, FS6R31A trans) He went on to say that the trans couldnt have been damaged by running over a tire tread... which got me pissed off because I know for a fact that that sound started immediately after the accident. So obviously I'm thinking second opinion at this point but can anyone out there tell me the likelihood of a tire tread smacking a trans hard enough to cause internal damage.

Im not looking forward to the upcoming arguement with my insurance company.

thx all.

I don't think anyone here is going to be able to diagnose your problem remotely, and even if we could, would your insurance company take that as good evidence? Obviously, not. Take it to another shop for a second opinion, and give it a good visual inspection on a lift.

Rubber VS Tranny: Tranny all day long unless that Rubber is going near the speed of sound.

Rubber Vs CF Drive Shaft: I would say Rubber could put a dent in the D/S unbalancing it. But that's about it.
