Default Vlsd differential shimming

Hi I recently purchased low mileage g37 vlsd internals ,but I want to shim the differential to lock as if it was welded because I'm tired of my current vlsds unreliability, everyone says to do it, but fail to give any advice how to?

Can someone point me in the right direction?
(I googled,I used the search function nothing came up,I also dug through all the diy)
Thank you in advance for your time.
-Tim

It's more reliable to weld a open diff

Not going to happen. The VLSD is a sealed unit, and even if it did open up, there are no plates and discs to shim- It's a VISCOUS differential. Why did you think the G37 VLSD was any different that the one you already have?

You must have not been around Nussans long. Shimming is a common thing with worn VLSD in the 240 world

You got any pics or how to's?

I'd like to see how it's done for curiosity. I was under the same understanding as cains.

I do know about it, and it's a bullsh!t baller mod. All you'd be doing is inducing some drag into the system, and it will not act either as a 1.5 or 2-way LSD in any form. I suppose if you shim it tightly enough, you'd get a locked diff, but what's the point? Just do the other bullsh!t baller mod and weld an open diff.

I'm actually curious about this. subbed
I'm down for doing it. Timninja get me the park number and I'll try it on my turboed 350z. I only drive the car like 1k miles a year so not worried about wear

The old vlsd I already have has 160k on it as the g37 vlsd I got for $30 had 60k and was simply pulled to be replaced by a tomei diff.

I'll open it and try it for ***** giggles, finding an open diff has been hell for me that's why I'm even toying with idea.
