A/C belt broke . . . . other belt looks shot.

Do u need to loosen both tensioners for doing just the alt/pwr str belt? I need to replace just that one?

Great guide, will be doing them this weekend. OEM belts came in. My 06 has 78K and probably has the stock ones (or 2nd set) I believe. I'm the 3rd owner of her. They are cracking but still holding strong with no fraying of the belt and no squeal. Quite surprised.

I liked one of the other member's comment. Count the number of loosening turns for each tension screw and use that as a base for re tightening before measuring deflection. Since most people seem to not get them tight enough that is a good idea.

Tried to do install with belts I bought online that were same size for unorthodox pulleys but grooves were different so was only able to get one of the belts on. Pretty easy install so just need to find the right belt now. Thanks for the write up.

Great writeup, just did this today, was a piece of cake. I expected to have some setbacks, but it was easy. Cranked it up and didnt have any squealing or issues at all. Is there such thing as overtightening the belts? Everything seems to be in order.

Yes, over tightening the drive belts will lead to accelerated wear and potential failure. I use the deflection guide in the FSM to ensure the belts are installed properly.

Just replaced both belts on mine. The alternator belt appears to be too long. I ran out of idler adjustment and it's only showing 160 lbs of tension. This is a bit short of the 188-208 lbs listed in the service manual. :\

Yesterday I changed the 2 original belts on my 2003 (70000 miles) Z. Bought 2 Dayco belts from Advanced Auto Parts. Dayco part #'s: 5040373 & 5060463. Cost less than $30 for the two. It only took 15-20 minutes after getting the plastic shield off the bottom of the car. the only slight issue was a very tight bolt on the upper pulley. Just put a pipe on the handle of the rachet wrench and it loosened easily. I've read a lot over the years to just push on the belt with your thumb and tension it to move about 1/4". This is what I did and all seems well

I bought a Krikit gauge since they were so cheap, and I haven't had any slippage issues or anything so far. But it was still not quite what the service manual says it should be. It's fine, I suppose.

This is really good, thanks! I was about to do it but realized my tools couldn't get in there to loosen the tension pulley nut on the power steering belt. The radiator was too close.

Good stuff here. Just finished today. Very simple. Maybe just edit the tools you'll need in the beginning. Used a wrench in the tight spot on the pulley. I also didn't have anything to measure the lbs in pressure so I kind of winged it of how tight it was to loosen in the first place. Went good on the first go. Thanks again!

Thanks for the write up, replaced both of mine with OEM last week. I did not put them any tighter than what they were previously, and no squealing at startup so not too loose. I may buy a tool to measure in the future so I can be sure it's set to spec.

Yeah, perhaps you've got an issue with an adblocker or something mistaking the host that the images are on for an ad service. Who knows. But the pictures are all displaying for me just fine, too.

I don't even remember what the pictures actually showed anymore, but there really isn't much to this job. It's pretty simple.
