Default xbox 360 HD help

I plugged in my xbox 360 into my westinghouse 32' LCD screen (using the component cables) and every time i try to choose 720p or 1080i the screen goes blank and says 'invalid format' anyone else have this problem? is there some simple thing i'm missing? 480p and widescreen both work fine. Thanks for any help in advance.

Yup its on HDTV and still wont work. Good suggestion though i hadn't thought of checking that before. I wonder if it's my TV? Maybe it wont read HDTV through component? that doesn't make a lot of sense though.

Did you select the 720p option in your XBox media screen?

Yeah i think i already did that. I went into the system setup and tried to select 720p. Oh well...i guess its nothing simple. I might try to buy a VGA HD cable and see if that works. If it doesn't i'll just return the cable. I guess i shouldn't make such a big deal out of it, its my roomates 360...but i really wanna play forza 2 in HD when it comes out.
