What happened to the simpsons?

Maybe i just grew out of it, but i tried watching new ones awhile back and it just isnt as funny

i feel the same way...i dont even know when the simpsons are on anymore.. btw that used to be my fav. episode ..when homer punches milhouses dad at the green light is the best...

Big fan of the series, have every DVD set, hundreds of collectibles, and one of those losers that know ever episode's number and title. I grown to really hate the show now

roughly around late '99 early 2000 around the time futurama was starting up, The Simpsons went completely downhill.
It used to be brilliant writing, Homer acting the way he did because he was simply being Homer, the whole situation, the way it was dealt with was funny and at time genius. It was never trying to reach for laughs, everything was completely believable in the way they acted for a family like the Simpsons.

Now its simply slap stick family guy style stupidity, Homer acts in a over-the-top way, saying and doing things so stupid and for no real reason, never believable, just hopes of cheap laughs. The story lines are thin and pointless, have nothing interesting to offer

They drained everything good, out this series and should of ended when Judge started Futurama, a show that had huge potential. Instead they choose to bleed the Simpsons to death and make what was once the greatest show ever into complete chit.

I have no hope for the movie, the trailers are the most disappointing thing I have ever seen. I am really pissed off, the last insult to what used to be a huge loyal fan base

I used to be a big Simpson's fan until I started to watch Family Guy... Compared to Family Guy the Simpsons is plain boring now, it's humor is weak... I find myself bored and rather watch a repeat of Family Guy instead of a new episode of The Simpsons...

I think its time to retire The Simpsons...

Ah Futurama, my favorite episode is when they get caught by the amazon women and they are sentence to death by "Boom Boom" (I think that was the term), which was basically death by sex lol... At first they were all excited then after several hours they were begging not to have sex anymore lol

One thing I hate about FOX is they are way to quick to cancel shows, unless it has huge ratings they won't keep the show

yeah I just don't care about them anymore. My wife still likes them, but freaking-A, they've been on 17 years now.

Now they're making a simpsons movie that'll probably bomb. IMO people just don't care anymore

I feel the same way. Simpsons used to be great, but I just found myself questioning almost every episode back in 02 or 03. At that point, I really felt the show become a political outlet for the writers. Not funny at all.

I, too, am confused about the movie being released.

I think that the higher ups at Fox just tried to get a little too much milage out of the show. Merchandising, advertising, and most likely contract obligations made the show grow long in the tooth years ago. Family Guy definitely helped to show the weaknesses in the Simpson's writing.

Sad to see such a great show go down the tube...while others like Futurama get axed before their prime.

I believe its only DVD, this has been in talks for along time. It would be cool the see it on Comedy Central but that a bit of wishful thinking.

Futurama could of been the greatest thing on TV if wasnt canceled, well maybe 2nd to South Park but thats really a different ballpark

family guy is the worst show ever, its just fart jokes, string together with a weak plot. There is no talent in putting one together

South Park is the only show that has taken over for best writing, but even stone and parker have admitted nothing beats the Simpson, they only improved and gone father on what the simpson have already done.

also king of the hill is very good, but I consider that a completely different type of cartoon as keeps realism and more like a live action series

I would rather watch simpsons reruns then the new epsiodes.

family guy is lame compared to other shows, but very funny.

and south park had it's bad seasons and it's only been around for 7 or so years... simpsons had a much longer run of good seasons. but def. best imo. next to ATHF and metalocolypse

conan only did 3 or 4 back '92, the ones he did where good, the simpsons best work where 3-4 season later , so nothing to do with him.

Cartoons are suppose to be funny, period... Simpons stop being funny about 6 years ago... Family guy to me is what a cartoon is suppose to be, entertaining, simple and funny (given it has had a few lame episodes), but if I wanted a detail plot I would go rent a drama from blockbuster...

Best cartoons of all time were the old ones, Road Runner, Bugs, Daffy, etc... those writers knew how to be funny... Cartoons today plain ass suck... There more of a platform to sell merchandise...

South Park to me is hit and miss, some of the episodes i've laugh my ass off at, but others are boring with little to no humor in them...
