Default Computer Help can't get past the windows login

I bought a used computer for someone. He had a password for windows, I don't need or want it popping up each time I login. I thought I had made changes correctly to take the password off of the computer but...... now I get the login screen and the password was deleted out and the old one isn't working. I'm sure a few of you guys can help me out with this. Thanks!!!

Does it run 2000 or XP? You can use this to reset the Administrator password and go from there.

it's XP media. any help would be appraicated. I just tried to take the password/login OFF. I don't have a need for it, I "removed" the password through the control panel/system and shut it down. Today I powered it up and I'm stuck. It shows the previous owners name and neither the password that was on the system works or leaving it blank.

Going to attempt your advise Black Sunshine. Thanks but please keep the suggestions coming.

The tool that I linked may be a bit tricky for novices. It's also available on the Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/), which may be easier for you to prepare. Once you've gained Administrator access, you can do anything you want with the other user accounts.

Now that I think about it, you may want to see if the Administrator account even has a password to begin with. To access it in XP Home/Media Center though, you'll have to boot into safe mode. Once you're in, I'd just create a new account for your friend.

Went to the grocery store and saw a PC World mag, on the cover it says "The 12 Biggest PC Disasters" and I'm not the only one who had this problem.

The simple fix was to use "Administrator" as the login, no password.

......now I just wish I knew what to do from there, trying to take off the password was how I started the problem.

I'd just delete the account in question and create a new one.

And avoid Vista at all costs. Seriously.

Yeah, I wish I could just delete it but I can't. I have a 6 week old baby and all of the pictures from the hospital up through last week are under that user. I'll find someway to get to them for the admin login or my wife will kill me. It's a laptop so I just need to find someone that I can take it to, I know it's my lack of knowledge that is the hang up, the computer is fine.
