Sales for EA's Rock Band title soared over the weekend as consumers pre-ordered $200 box sets of the new music title for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3.
The Xbox 360 Rock Band Special Edition SKU rose 29,680 percent in sales by Sat. evening. As of Mon. morning the title has become the No. 4-best selling item at Amazon.com's Computer & Video Games division.
Sales for the PS3 Rock Band Special Edition SKU increased 4,586 percent by Sat. evening. It currently ranks at No. 74 in the Computer & Video Games division.
Both versions were first made available at Amazon during the last week of July.
Rock Band will offer peripherals like a microphone, lead / bass guitar, and drum set to allow players form a virtual rock band at home.
Developed by Harmonix, makers of the smash music hit Guitar Hero, Rock Band will feature top hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today, including The Ramones "Rockaway Beach", Bon Jovi "Wanted Dead or Alive", Weezer "Say It Ain't So", and The Strokes "Reptilia.
The final game is scheduled to be released in late Nov.
