Its even worse teh core dropped a measly $20 bucks. Way to go MS (sarcasm). Drop teh core to 249.99 and atleast try to compete for the casual market. Morons.
I'm really suprised this came through with the huge losses they have posted after taking the warranty hit.
I wonder if MS will ever get out of the red with their game console, with nintendo surging on their sales it's really put MS in a more long term fight now that I don't think they can keep bleeding this kind of cash.
If it had been just the PS3 vs. the XBOX360 I think they would be in a much better space.
I'm surprised and not surprised about this. Surprised in that MS has and INCREDIBLE lineup of games coming out this holiday (notwithstanding the GTA IV delay) and the PS3 is still priced too high to be competitive. Also, MS is going to lose a billion in a quarter. That's not chump change, especially in only three months even to a multi-billion dollar company like MS.
Not surprised in that the 360 has really not been selling that well compared to comparative quarters in 2006 and MS had to have noticed that the Wii is gaining quickly.
Finally, I like how MS said that this price cut was always in their long term planning:
Yeah, okay, MS, the fact that your two closest competitors "cut price" a month ago and the other is selling double the units that you are quarter after quarter respectively has NOTHING to do with a price cut. Yeah, that's rich.

why does it matter if they had the price cut because everyone else did? should the xbox fanbois get upset when PS3 FINALLY starts putting out good games?
'OMG, look @ PS3 trying to copy Xbox by putting out good games'.
why not calm down and reap the benefits of the price war ?
