Stopped cardio and eat more.....losing more weight?
So I was hovering around 215lbs doing cardio 2-3 times per week at 800-1200 calories on the elliptical and lifting 4-5 days.
I decided to slow cardio down (to almost nothing)....eat more protein (whey) and just hit legs harder (over 700 lbs on press 8-8-6-4), 335lbs standing calf raises 12-10-8-fail drop weight by half to fail. Also added dead lifts around a month ago (again)
Why is that interesting.. Fat is burned in the mitochondria of muscle cells, if you add more muscle you will burn more fat. Muscle is metaboliclly active, which means it burns calories even when at rest. Fat does not.
Also, if you eat more protein, by way of replacing fat and carbs with protein, you will in essence be in a calorie deficit. You see protein is the least efficient energy source, being only aobut 78% efficient, while carbs are about 88% efficient, and the granddaddy fat which is 99% efficient.
So for each 100 calories, the above numbers are the amount of calories your body will take in after, energy conversion, etc...
Also, your heart rate will determine how much fat you will burn as well as muscle. If your heart rate is above 65% of your maximum heart rate, you are in the cardiac zone, meaning you are making your heart stronger, but if you are in the 55-65% range of your maximum heart rate you are in the fat burning zone.
And everytime you eat, your body burns energy to digest and absorb the food, so more calories being burned... back to the basic to lose weight more calories burned, then consumed.
I'm currently on a cut and I do little to no cardio on a weekly basis. Guys need to realize that the treadmill is not 100% needed when on a cut IF your diet is right. Meaning, low carb/high fat/high protein. This will burn fat fast enough to where cardio isnt needed. Just intense weight workouts.

Oh ok.......i see why you are trying to lose a little weight. I weight just as much as you but im 6'4 muscular build.
Yeah my little bro is 6'1 175 with a "muscular building." I tear him up in the gym by about 50% on every lift. He's cut, but I'm built to lift heavy....which is where I like to stay.
I am 5'5" 179 lbs. I have a muscular build with a slight gut that I am desperately trying to get rid of. I have a decent diet which consists of fruits/proteins, staying plenty hydrated and eating a hearty breakfast and every 2 hours there after on fruit. With my body I really can't lift to much as i pack on muscle fairly quickly however I have noticed that I beefed up my cardio with wind sprints and short walks in between. which has helped me drop a weight or two. I am looking to trim down to 160 or 150-155. but i think i will have to beef up my cardio since i also train in jiu jitsu and would prefer to train at a lower weight.

plain and simple, at 800-1200 calories. you will be in a calorie deficit. im surprised you even have the energy to do a workout at all. your body doesnt have a choise but to lose weight. the big jump is probably just due to switching things up. every time you switch up your workouts, you will usually see a good change right away before you taper off to a plateau.
Wow, I just now saw 800-1200 calories. Not the correct way to cut BF at all. At that low of caloric intake, your body will be storing all of your fat and letting go of muscle. Nobody wants that.

the weight loss could also be due to the cardio. he didn't say how long he was doing consistent cardio. 6 months or 4 weeks? if it was on the shorter time frame, that could just be the result of the cardio kicking in.
