hey everyone i couldn't decided if i should post this here or in the boxing/MMA section but this deals with excersies and training on my own. hope this is okay. Anyways i i jsut bought a punching bag to get better endurance, agility, and tone. i was wondering if anyone had any tips or excersies that would help me out. I know it would be best if i went to a boxing/MMA school but i don't have that kind of time. any help would be appreciated, also maybe some supplement advice, all im taking at the moment is EAS RTD shakes, fish oil, and mens health mega mens sport. Thanks.
all this with no pausing in between for a set number of mins 6-8-10..etc whatever you chose and do it like 3-5 times and you'll have a great little 30 or so min workout.

find a local wrestling club or team and ask if you can just practice with them, that will get you in great shape and provide you with some of the basics. Boxing is a good bonus to have, but it won't help you much if you can't get off a clean punch without being taken down or submitted.
What kind of bag did you get a long or short bag? Jumping rope will help increase speed when punching. Move your feet around when punching hitting high/low constantly changing the position of your feet. Also, throw in Kicks, knee's, elbows when you can to constantly change things up.
Look at video's on youtube for proper form also since a ton of people constantly do it wrong. Video yourself to check your form..
I know when I hit the bag sometimes I'll practice form and others I'll go for endurance. 2-3 minutes of solid punching then strait to jumping rope, then back to punching/kicking etc..

i have a long bag, and im trying to concentrate on form at the moment since im just starting i know its wrong. today i threw in kicks and elbows, not just punching straight at the bag.
hit bag - 2 mins
jump rope - 2 mins
push ups - 2 mins
sit ups - 2mins
sprints - 2mins
then repeat 3x
If your just starting I'd work on form that's more important than anything ..
Start off the set by jumping rope probably 10 mins first to get the heart rate up, be sure to use toes not flat foot.
Push ups and sit ups between bag punching sets...
Sprints only after a few bag sets. Sprints will wear you out if your doing them right, which may cause your overall workout to suffer.
Mix it up when you can and when your tired try something else also try not to have too much lag time between things. Find a range that you can continuously do things for a 30-45 min set than taking rests in between. If your exhausted work on form if your pumped work on speed..
Having a long bag definitely helps because you can add the legs into the mix which allows a bit of recovery for arms and upper body..

thanks man that really helped. another main concern is working on my left side im right dominant so everything i do on my left is just awful. but if i jsut concentrate on form im sure it will come to me with a lot of practice. Again thanks for the help and i will give this a try and im sure results will follow.
Also throw in some leg routine workouts. consisting of controlled lunges. You don't have to stretch far forward to do them but its more of like taking one small step forward and dropping down to a knee from a standing position. Do about 12 on each side. Next do regular squats, shoulder length apart. Do about 24 squats. Next do Scissor lunges which is doing the lunges as mentioned but as you go up you jump up and switch legs as you come down, again 24 reps. Next do jumping squats 24 reps. This is all done with no weights and no rest in between. You may want to save this for the end of your workout.
Another workout is also Bear Crawls, Alligator crawls, and reverse crab walks. Do this at a comfortable to fast speed.
Burpees is also another thing that will get you cursing your head off.
after you do these exercises feel free to come back on this board and say how much you hate me for making you do this LOL!
Its really tough to find good form even though YouTube is a good source, but nothing really replaces actual live training when training correctly. You don't want to hurt yourself in the process. But the good thing is you are keeping yourself active which is always a good thing.
