well as the title reads, i hurt my back.. i jerked it a week and a half ago and haven't recovered yet. i've been doing so well in my fitness plan that i felt that i can workout even with a hurt back.. which didn't turnout too well.
my back hurts while walking, sitting, driving/shifting gears, basicly any movement that uses the back lol.
so i swallowed my pride today and went to urgent care since my pain was at a level 8. the doctor tells me that i strained my back muscles and that i cannot workout for a couple of weeks and gave me meds for the inflamation and a muscle relaxer for the back spasms.
so since i've been doing good in my fitness plan i've been seeing results. i've combined p90x + gym routines and its been going great.
since i shouldn't workout for a couple of weeks. are there any workouts that i can do to atleast keep some of the muscle i put on? chest&arms i would like to keep. since my back is the area that is in pain, would doing simple barbell curls hurt my back? i would like to keep my arms atleast. lol
any other workout recommended? as a reminder the workout cannot use my back
I was in the same predicament a few years ago. My lower back was injured so the only exercises I did were bench presses and seated arm curls. But I suggest you follow your doctor's advise and take a break from the gym to let your back recuperate. You shouldn't lose too much mass as long as your body doesn't canibalize due to insufficient nourishment. Good luck.
If I were you man, just let it go for now. Your back is part of your core, esp your lower back. Any work outs you will do will indirectly hit it causing your healing process to take longer. Anyways a good rest is healthy dont worry about your muscles for now, just focus on healing its better in the long run. Plus once your lower back is gone, dude good luck getting back into the gym
I went out for 6 months due to a terrible shoulder injury (thorasic nerve pulsy). Seriously.....stay the F*ck off of it. A month of recovery now and coming back 100% is WAY better than 20 years of pain at 50%.
yeah, i'm 100% off lifting. i just do a lot of walking to get the heartrate up. i started to walk my dog in the neighborhood so we both can get exercise. lol.. but theres way too many dogs loose in La Puente, lol.
i was in the same exact situation as you. went to the doc, prescribed pain killers, and within a little over a week i was recovered. this is staying away from the gym for that long. gl and hope ya get better.
Been there.....the BEST thing you can do is rest. Taking a week or 2 off completely will not negatively impact your physique as much as you think.
I've had a couple lower back injuries and at first i would just suck it up and work out anyways. I'd be doing heavy squats and deadlifts with a hurt back.....there were plenty of dayz I ended up bed-ridden after a workout, I couldn't even sit up without major pain. It's not worth it and in the end I always had to take some time off anyways to get it to heal.
Your lower back really isn't something to f@%k with....take it easy til it heals man...
just rest bro. i been there, and it was a long 6 month recovery. Best thing to do is to give your body the time it needs to heal properly. Like everyone has mentioned, one way or another, the exercises will affect you back, prolonging the recovery, so just take a few weeks off, and just relax.
