The extra material at the heel and toes help to better avoid blisters. But I've found that if you're just starting off, you might develop calluses regardless. After that, it probably won't matter.

The big difference is simply the material. Good running sucks will feel way too thin if you are used to cotton socks or something. They are good if they wick away all sweat which helps prevent blisters. I could never run without nice running socks ever again. They are expensive but worth it.
I really hope that is not the price for just one pair. According to the review there has been great review about it. I might get one unless someone else can recommend another brand. Sorry this is all new to me and I really don't shop for brand name socks.
LOL, yeah they are expensive but they are quality socks and aren't the equivalent of other "cheaper" socks. Talk is cheap, splurge on just one pair and I guarantee you will become a believer.
I just placed an order on these so-called socks for the gods . Actually I am really looking forward to try these on. I will give me review of them shortly. Again thanks everyone for your help.
I have always really liked the Asics running socks. They are very comfortable and very reasonable priced ($16.00 for 3 pairs). In fact this thread reminded me to go buy some more, so I picked up 2 more packs of them this past weekend along with some new inserts.

I have to admit they are a bit on the pricey side of socks that I have come across. Actually there are some even higher but I am not going to pay $60 for socks unless they can do the workout for me . So I tried them on Tuesday night before I went running. Once I put them on and walk around my house if you have the cushion is very think. I have hardwood floors so I notice the difference immediately. It almost felt like I already have slippers on. The impact was greatly reduce.
Now for running. It is awesome. I mean it doesn't make me run 40 more miles but just the comfort of running makes it great.
No jump back to the next day when I went running. Immediately I notice the difference. It really made running more of a hassle now
I would definitely invest more in these socks. I also want to another some cheaper thick cushion socks for daily wear. After wearing Thorlos I notice every pressure now on the ball of my feet.
It has two layer to prevent friction which leads to blisters. Inevitably your feet will move relative to the shoe, no way to avoid that, but this has the two layers rub instead of your feet, preventing blister forming.
