as far as air channeling to cooling off specific engine parts, its not a complete seal, such as the stock undertray and/or ARC piece. you can see from the side view that there is some gap, as air flows underneath the car, it'll vent out toward the sides.
most 'diffusers' that are out of this car have a complete seal, and /or higher sides to create a channel, they do not have any vents.. toward the middle.
i really dont believe the ARC piece does much of anything except protect the underside from rocks and look pretty..

Similarly, the stock exhaust acts as a diffuser of a sort to increase downforce at the rear end of the car (Bernoulli's principle).
Not knocking you or anything, but I would think some of the aerodynamic components of the under tray, however little there may be, has been compromised just a tad bit.

The stock under tray doesn't channel any air to cool off any engine parts, I don't think. What it does, however, is channel air in specific areas of the bottom of the car to reduce the coefficient of drag (track editions have a few plastic pieces to reduce it to .29).

Awesome! Thank you for the schematic. I was thinking of waiting for the GTSpec Undertray to come out, but now I might try to make my own. So you have had yours on for almost 8 months...any problems?

^ the link on his first post works? look like they sell the Alumilite??
I'm sure there are a few other materials that can be used as well. With as many fastening points there are for the under tray i bet you can easily get away with using even 3/8 plexi-glass - a sheet big enough can be had at home depot probably.
If you want stronger you can do HPDE or UHMW:
any local plastic company/supplier/foam supplier can probably get this for you.
Great examples here: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1001101
Re-read his first post, he used basic cardboard as a template.

I really hope they pick it back up
Here is what i got from a vendor on the 03 aug 09:
"it's still in development for another 2 months. gtspec is test fitting the prototype. they're trying to line up early, and late 350z's and a g35 to see if they can make 1 under tray for all models"
I don't know if I can break down and buy the arc one, lol.
