There is also a single transistor that connects all of the LEDs to ground that might be limiting the total current by how its biased or by the signal that switches it on and off.

Quick update on the resistors. I ordered a bunch of 1206 type, got them in and discovered they don't replace any of the ones I want to replace. Feh! Evidently Acree was focused on just the PLCC-2 type LEDs only.
A little research reveals I need types 0402 and 2010. The 1206's will come in handy if I decide to monkey around with the PLCC2 type LEDs.
I expect to order within the next day or so.

OK. Im bumping this....
This needs to be a sticky, Ive been reading this for a while now and there is a ton of good information here.
Acree has a couple of killer threads as well that I always have to dig to find. Acree if you could find those threads of your builds/conversions that you did I would love to have all of these threads stickied under "LED conversion threads" or something.
just an idea...

I am no longer able to do these conversions through the mail, as I sold my 350z back in March. I am still able to do them in person though.
I've actually started doing conversion for the Evo IX and X with color changing needles. They can be found here or on evolutionm.net.
Here are links to every LED thread I've made. These were all found in my thread history that everyone has access to.
Gauge Pod Tear Down
Blue LED Interior Conversion
Sequential LED Turn Signal
LED Door Handles and the Walk-through
Valentine One Mirrors - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Dome Lights
Headlights
I believe these are most of the projects I completed. I do not have links to each of the different LED conversions I completed that were posted by their owners. I have completed over 40 350z's though. Also keep in mind, with certain projects, such as the LED headlights, they were a learning experience. The level of fit and finish was constantly improving.

Thanks for that bud.
Now, if the mods could compile those links and the link to this thread in a sticky. It would help those who want to DIY this process.

lbz: figured i would outline our email conversation about the 06+ A/C controls and my findings.
- Cut only the positive side off with Xacto
- Slightly bent positive contact into a convex shape
- Pushed the led out
- Slightly bent up the negative contact arms (just enough that i could slide the new LED in flat).
- Tined LED
- Slid new LED under negative arms
-Soldered LED to negative arms
- Aligned the right side contact hole with the remainder of the stud
- Using a very fine tip (.25mm) soldering iron at 500°F pushed down on the metal contacts enough to melt the studs and push the contact onto the studs.
- Using very end of fine tip melt / smear the protruding part of stud across contacts just like original sonic weld.
- Solder positive side to LED
Worked perfectly on all 3 dials.
