You're doing a roof wrap for the wrong reasons...

If you lay vinyl over a bad clear, there will still be sh*tty clear underneath it.

I have a gloss black vinyl on my roof and think it looks perfect, but I would definitely get the paint fixed before I'd go covering it up.

This doesn't make any sense to me. I'm assuming part of the reason he is doing the vinyl is to not have to pay to have the roof to be re-done. If he's gonna pay to do the roof again then why pay for the vinyl if the roof is already fixed. There is more than one reason to do roof vinyls.

Yep, good luck finding one without having to steal it off of another member's car. I gave up and just went with the vinyl.

Mad props for the originality .

It's like sweeping dirt under the rug. Inthe end the dirt is still there.

Also, with vinyl wrap, you will be able to see any imperfections of the substrate. And, if the clear coat isn't good, the vinyl will likely lift.

I'm all for saving money so don't get me wrong, but this is just a bad idea.

Here's one of the 350z's that I did some vinyl work on while up in the bay area / norcal. The owner of this silver 350z wanted me to vinyl wrap his roof in my gloss black material. His windshield, side windows, and rear windshield were also tinted. He wanted to give it a continuous flow / look from the roof to the front/rear windshield, which is what we got with the final results once everything was done. It looked good. The gloss black matched nicely with the glass.

That is definitely different. It's trickier when putting something like that with a design on it, since you have to be extra careful not to stretch it too much when applying it to the roof/piece or else it may distort the image.

The material I use doesn't go or get rated by percentage.

Don, what do you suggest we use for cleaning the glossy vinyl material?

I have heard that Isopropyl alcohol is good but want to get your advice

I believe since mine is about 4 years old it might be time for a swap out due to oxidation.

I will hit you up if I can't figure out something to bring back the shiny look of the vinyl. There is also a product from Chemical Guys that I might try out.

Recommendations for care of matte vinyl? I did my roof and B pillars yesterday after some careful study and many Youtube videos, and I want to keep it in great condition.

Thanks, guys. I can't take credit for the originality. It's something that Justin came up with when he and I started talking about ideas for the coupe. He knows my personality and that I'm always going to want something "unique" and he hit it out of the ballpark IMO. Vinyl definitely has it's place on our cars when executed properly. I love seeing what the pros like Don and Justin are able to do. There's definitely a difference in quality between what they produce and how most of the DIY attempts turn out IMO.
