Perhaps if I lived in a very foggy/ limited visibility area and didn't feel the stock reflectors and lamps were bright enough to be noticed, it would change my opinion.

I believe it's mandatory in Japan. That's why all the new cars coming from Japan have the empty spot back there here in the States. My new STI and my Garage Mak body kit for the Z both have them.
back in the 90's we would have a lower brake light to let other drivers know you where looking for a race. Than again this was way back when not everyone and there grandmother was street racing.

Don't remember that, but I do remember side marker lights back then. If they were on the person was ready to race
