Insurance is taking care of it, just waiting to get the estimate. What do you guys think? Will they total it out? And what options do you think I have at this point?

unfortunately I owe about $5k. Car has 163k on it. Iwas driving on the 60 freeway in cali, cruise control at 72mph, got out of the fast lane and dude came flying up and shining his brights at me. started to brake to slow down and get out of the lane, he overreacted and slammed on his brakes, lost control and slid into me.

Riverside, ey? I did the same kind of damage to my Gencoupe at Adams Motorsports Track....

That rear quarter panel almost guarantees they total it out.

Edit: didn't see the above^ post.

That sucks! Who do you have for insurance?

I have Geico. About to have an estimator take a look at it and see what's up. Completely breaks my heart. I just, JUST did a freshly rebuilt engine in June, clutch/flywheel in February, and four new tires in May. I put $5k alone in this car this year.

That's honestly the only thing I've been saying. I was headed straight for the divider and managed to pull it back around. So it could've been WAY worse. I'm just thankful that's the least that happened. And hey, everything happens for a reason, right?

You might be in luck! Geico gave me close to four grand for a 94 miata even after i told them what i paid for it (not four grand).

Maybe you get lucky and they over estimate your car's value?

I hope so. That would definitely help.

If the other driver caused the crash, didn't they get the ticket? Why would your insurance be involved at all?

He wouldn't admit fault and wouldn't give me his insurance.

yes, cops did come and a police report was filed. This whole process is a headache. haha the appraiser took a look at it and said there's a minimum of $6,500 of damage. So we'll see what happens.

$6500 in damage for a car worth $5k - $7.5K

that is 90% - 125% of the cars value

and I am sure it cost more than that to fix with OEM not after market parts

Seeing how much you owe, I'd say it's a safe bet they call it totalled. Glad you're OK.
