UPDATE: After doing a s**** ton of research and searching for answers tonight I think I have something with little to no risk im going to try.

these straps seem to be identical to ours except they loop around the bar fully instead of staying to the top of the roof if anyone has tried and it damaged there roof please stop me ASAP.

Wow, those look pretty tired. Before you spend money, try a good strong safety pin to "hem", add tension.
But really, new straps and rivets are in order. Especially with Summer coming. gl.

Small bungee cords work much better than the original straps. They are cheap and easy to replace. When I get home I will snap a few pics, but I basically removed the old straps and used heat shrink to keep the hook ends of the bungees from separating, and connected 2 on each side where the OEM straps were installed.

Now my top goes up and down at any temp without stopping, jerking, or groaning.

I think I paid $20 for a "jug full o Bungees" at HD, and there were 8 of the small size in the jug.
