350z cabin noise, road noise and leakage.

^^ Just got a ride in a new Corvette this morning. Although the owner had installed loud aftermarket pipes, and we drove fast, the car was surprisingly quiet. One thing I noticed in particular is how little road and tire noise is transmitted to the cabin’s interior.
So what is the difference? It is simply that GM uses custom sound deadening that is slim and lightweight, but customized to the car’s dimensions. GM tests the results insuring that it works as a sound deadening solution.

BUT, look at the demographics that buy the cars (corvettes).... older men. they want quiet and refined, my ls7 with long tubes, and hfc's is quieter than my 350 was
**edit, don't forget cost.... the vette cost a helluva lot more than the nissan brand new, i bet a lot more goes into design with comfort in mind

We have not had a detailed discussion about sound deadening for some time now. I think we can revisit this issue. Truthfully I’ve tried doing some sound deadening and have not been fully pleased with the results. That is why I am interested in someone else taking a new shot at this.
I hope that terrj undertakes a new sound deadening project. And if he chooses doing that, I hope he provides information and pictures of his progress and project.

What have you done to your car may i ask ?

^^ I installed sound deadening in the front doors, but that was more to improve sound transmission from my door speakers than mitigating road noise entering the car’s cabin. It significantly improved speaker performance, and the project also reduced road noise (but this was minimal).
I also installed sound deadening on the rear hatch floor. It helped, but was disappointing as a solution.
I think a lot of the road noise enters the cabin through the wheel wells. I cannot offer any statistical or comparative data or an explanation that supports this. It’s only my best guess/hunch.
