Hatch not popping open

It worked fine on my old hatch struts, which were OEM. I'm thinking the new ones don't have a strong helper spring like dcains mentioned. I'll see if there is a latch adjustment when I get time.

Have you removed the hatch weight?
If not, pop off the plastics and unbolt the big black bracket holding it. It's useless and can cause this problem.
My hatch would only unlatch half way so I had to press the button twice to get it open. Removing the weight fixed everything. And also weight reduction bcuz racecar.

I emailed Amazon yesterday, and even though I've had the sh!tty struts for a few months and don't have the packaging, they're happy to take them back. You just can't beat their customer service. I ordered a set of these instead, which are the ones I had previously:

I clicked the return button, and chose "other" for the reason. I described how they don't pop the hatch open, and now in the cold weather, they barely hold it open. They sent a UPS shipping label, and they will be picked up for free.
The strongArms actually have a lifetime warranty. Too bad I tossed my other pair.
"In the event that the units stop performing after 180 days then you would be responsible to ship them to us and enclose a check for $8.00 (for shipments inside the USA) as well as proof of purchase from us to cover the return postage, and we will then send you the replacement unit. Please contact us before the units are shipped for an RMA number."

During the last 14 years on my 2003 350z, I’ve replaced the hatch springs once and the hatch lifts twice.
Hatch Spring
Hatch Lift
Popping and lifting the hatch requires a good working spring and adequate lifts. In other words, you need both to be in good operating condition.
