Default Cleaning HID bulb

Just wondering what's the best way to clean them, in case they have fingerprints on them.

Is rubbing alcohol enough? And what do you usually use it with, tissue paper or some type of towel?

I've used rubbing alcohol on bulbs that are sensitive to skin oils, but I've heard on many occasions that denatured alcohol was best for such purposes. The difference between rubbing and denatured? Not too sure.... lemme google this one...

From a quick search (not on the alcohol differences) on the cleaning of the bulbs with alcohol, it looks like isopropyl rubbing alcohol should be sufficient for bulbs that are sensitive to fingerprints. (Used the terms "alcohol" and "bulbs"). The first two searches rendered:

"If the glass does become dirty, even fingerprints leave oil, just wipe with a clean cloth and a little rubbing alcohol."
http://www.piaadirect.com/page3.html

"The oil from your hands or any other residue on the glass can cause the bulb to burn out prematurely. If you accidentally touch the glass, clean it immediately with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth."
http://automotive.abusaki.com/Bulbs.html

Hope this helps.

it says to clean it immediately. What would happen if i hadn't clean them when i first touched them, not that I have touched them, i just never really checked them and want to make sure they are clean when i install them.

It's not like the oil from fingerprints is going to "eat away" the bulb if it's not turned on, is it?

Maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't... there doesn't appear to be anything definitive that I've found regarding this question.....

i guess as long as they haven't been turned on, it should be ok. I'm going to clean them before turning them on. Thanks for the help.
