Hey guys,

I have a Dell XPS Laptop. Needless to say it has now crapped out on me, below are the pix of what it's doing.
I thought it was a battery/power problem so I swapped out a new battery but that didn't change. Then I thought it was a memory problem so I took out 1GB DIMM out of the 2GB sticks I have, and swapped (not replaced with new) those in and out but I am still getting the same problem. I have formatted, but still no go.

So is it the LCD or Video Card? Should I get new RAM sticks? I am getting frustrated...

Guys, I started a blog at the end of October. Please take a look & give me some feedback.

http://nicks-it-security.blogspot.com/

I work for a community bank & after attending a conference on IT Security, where other community banks were in attendance, I found that a lot of them weren't as on top of current & foreseeable risks associated with IT security.

As the sole internal IT person for my bank, I have learned to stay on top of a lot of things that I didn't think about as often in my other IT positions. Working for a regulated industry such as banking is a different can of worms.

I try to post articles that relate to common problems that any IT staff would deal with but with a focus on things that really affect smaller community banks & banks in general.

Please take a look & let me know what your thoughts are. Any thing I should change, add, cover? Any & all suggestions & criticism is appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- It turns out "a lot" is about 100,000 Motorola (MOT Quote) Droid phones sold on the first weekend.

Broadpoint AmTech analyst Mark McKechnie estimates that Verizon (VZ Quote) sold more than half of the 200,000 Droid phones Motorola supplied to its stores. All Verizon would say Monday is that it sold "a lot."

But 100,000 is not a lot, especially for a device that is crucial to the revival of a fallen Motorola. Nor is 100,000 a lot for Verizon, the No.1 telco hoping to hold that position by stopping customers from defecting to AT&T (T Quote) for the Apple (AAPL Quote) iPhone.

"This puts the Droid debut in the same category as the Palm (PALM Quote) Pre, and that's a little troubling," says Nielsen wireless analyst Roger Entner.

One has to think that Plan A for Verizon was to have a blockbuster Droid and an ongoing partnership with Google (GOOG Quote) that would rival the winning combination of AT&T and Apple.

Plan B will now almost definitely include the iPhone.

"Verizon wants the iPhone and they will get the iPhone, but it certainly strengthens your negotiation hand if you have a viable alternative," says Entner.

AT&T's exclusive iPhone sales agreement with Apple is set to expire next year and Verizon is widely expected to add the iconic phone to its lineup.

I wonder how much Verizon spent on their ad campaign?

Now an internet worm is achieving what Apple has been unable to do -- punish those with jailbroken iPhones (phones freed of Apple's app restrictions). Sophos, a leading security firm, appears to be the first to have investigated the amusing virus. The virus, which "rickrolls" users, changing their wallpaper to an image of Rick Astley. It appears to do little else other than spreading to other jailbroken iPhones in the user's contact list.

The worm can infect any jailbroken iPhone with SSH installed and an unchanged default password. The password on jailbroken iPhones defaults to "alpine". Users can change this by installing the MobileTerminal app, available from the Cydia undergound app store, and typing the command passwd.

OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600 2x2GB
ATI 4870 1GB
Already had an X-fi sound card, couple hdd, Antec 900, and blu-ray drive I got a good deal on, but the video card isn't here yet because they shipped a 4850 instead so I'm still using my old X850XT PE. Yes I was long overdue for a new pc and so far I am really happy.
No issues at all, booted first time and been running great. Just can't wait to test out some new games.

Report: Apple to launch Verizon iPhone for 2010

<a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/news/iPhone-For-Verizon-In-siliconalley-2248610916.html?x=0&.v=4"...

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/iPhone....html?x=0&.v=4

Apple will release a new iPhone next summer that works on Verizon Wireless as well as all global networks, a report claims, citing sources in the Taiwan supply chain.

The report, via AppleInsider, also says that the new iPhone will be smaller than the current iPhone, including a smaller screen. And that it will be manufactured for Apple by a different supplier, a subsidiary of netbook-maker Asustek.

Assuming Apple does not renew its exclusive U.S. deal with AT&T, it makes sense that Apple would make an iPhone that could work on Verizon, the largest U.S. wireless carrier with 89 million subscribers. (Verizon uses a different technology than AT&T--CDMA--so Apple has to build a new kind of phone to work on the network).

Why should Apple make the iPhone available on Verizon?

* As we reported earlier this year, it would be ridiculously cheap for Apple to make a CDMA-friendly iPhone. Even switching the current iPhone to a CDMA version would probably cost only a trivial amount. Amol Sarva, CEO of mobile gadget startup Peek, pegs the cost at less than $5 million.
* It would be very good for sales. Even though AT&T has been a hugely successful partner for Apple in terms of overall sales in the U.S., most iPhone subscribers are still coming from within AT&T's ranks -- despite the fact that AT&T only represents about 1/4 of the total U.S. wireless subscriber base. There are millions of potential iPhone buyers at other carriers who have not bought iPhones, either because they are loyal to their current carriers or hate AT&T. Verizon could also probably steal some current iPhone subscribers from AT&T, given how lousy AT&T's data network has performed in key cities, such as New York City.
* It would be bad for the competition. Verizon and other carriers are finally now getting (and promoting) decent iPhone competitors, such as the new Droid series powered by Google. But if Verizon were to get its hands on the iPhone, it would probably favor that over the Droid, at least sometimes.
* What about waiting for 4G? Even if Apple waits for Verizon's "LTE" 4G network to be ready, it would need to be able to back up onto a 3G network for several years, for use in places where 4G service is not available or is not functioning. It's possible that Apple could push that roaming traffic onto AT&T or another GSM-based 3G provider. But it makes more sense to roam onto Verizon's CDMA network.

We're not personally thrilled about the idea of a smaller iPhone -- we'd even spring for a slightly larger one -- but it could probably find a happy audience of women, teens, and people with smaller hands. (It may also be popular in other countries where people tend to be smaller.)

Either way, it makes a lot of sense sense for Apple to sell a phone at Verizon as soon as possible.

Went to just play with one today, and ended up walking out of the store with one. Only been messing with it for a couple hours, but here are some initial impressions. I'll post more as I use it. I can honestly say, there have been countless phones who've sang the "iPhone Rival" song, but this is the first phone I've used that really is.

OS 2.0:
Virtually no lag, finally a device that seamlessly flows from one thing to the next(on Verizon). Response is prompt, as soon as you select a command it's done. A welcome change for me.

Screen:
Screen is vibrant and well lit, going to have to get a screen protector soon though. As far as touch technology goes, it's like a mixture of an iPod and EnV. You simply touch what you want and it gives feedback(vibration) to let you know it's selected. Like an iPod/iPhone you simply swipe your finger to change home screens.

Keyboard:
Little tight, but honestly I've just been using the touch keyboard since I got it. Only ejected the keyboard in once when I first recieved it. Take some getting used it, but nothing deal breaking.

Camera:
Very nice pictures, I'm not a huge photophile(wtf) but they look pretty damn good to me. I'll post one later for j00 gais.

Email:
Simply entered my Gmail info and was done, pretty simple.

App Store:
Very nice and set up, again similar to Apple's. Top Paid and Free, ect. Once you download, it simply loads onto your dock and you can drag it to any of your three(I think) home screens. 10000+ apps at the moment and growing, so there's a nice selection.

Locking/Unlocking Phone:
Sort of like a rotary phone, you just press and drag your finger like dialing a number.

Browsing:
Quick browser, I've seen some YT vids comparing the iPhone and motodroids and pages load pretty quickly for me. Pinch and stretch isn't supported on the browser, but it is supported on the phone so perhaps a fix later down the road? You simply tap-twice to zoom.

Anyone else Droid it up today?
