Just wondering if anyone else shares my handgun hobby.
I've had lots of guns over the years...sold most of them, but still have an old Ruger .38, a Beretta Tomcat .32auto, and a new Taurus 24/7 9mm.
I've only had the Taurus for a few weeks, but I've pumped 10 boxes of Hornady's through it without any troubles at all. Very accurate, but it may be the cartridges, since Hornady's are usually dead-on anyway. The gun is very slick...love the grip on it.
just curious, not to anyone here, or elsewhere, but I always read how you should get a .45 cause 9mm and 22 has no stopping power. even though these 45s always shoot at peices of paper anyway.
in all honesty, do you really think there is any situation where a shotgun or 45 would really affect the situation differently than a 22? the guy you shot thinks "damn, that was just a 22, Im gonna keep goin with this"

A 22 or 9mm could easily just pass through you or not stop the person and an attacker could just keep coming. I would rather the knock down power of a .40 minimum because when you shoot there is a reason why you are.
Glad to see this thread kind of took off since I left last night....
Yes, the Taurus 24/7 has ribbed rubber grips - very comfortable and grippy. Love that gun.
Ahhhhh, the debate over which caliber is best for defense......ares (above) you are right - 90% of the time a .22 is enough to scare away a would-be attacker, but so would simply pulling a cap gun and pointing it at someone. Sane people don't want to be shot, but there's the real issue: people that rape, mug, and violently attack someone are usually missing a card or two from the deck. If someone is intent on doing some serious damage to you, a body-shot .22 is not gonna stop them...no way. They WILL keep coming, especially if they are hopped up on drugs or booze. They will make the decision to keep coming at you. A large(r) caliber bullet will make the decision FOR them. A 9mm or larger hollow point bullet makes a seeeeerious hole in body tissues when it expands. With larger calibers your chances of stopping someone with a single shot greatly improves.
But the subject of concealability (if you are licensed to carry) comes next. You can't just tuck a .357 with a 6" barrel in your hip pocket like you can with a .22auto (or .32auto like mine). If you are just wearing jeans and a tshirt, that is the way to go, and it's FAR better than nothing.
For home defense I have a Mossberg 12gauge on the first floor, and my Taurus 9mm in a drawer right next to the bed upstairs. A lot of people would call me paranoid or worse, but believe me, I NEVER hope to use any of these guns against another human being. That would be life-altering and just plain horrible. But I am also a realist. This world is not filled with 100% decent people like you and me. We all insure the things that are valuable to us; our homes, our 350Z's, our jewelry. Knowing that the world is a crazy place and that people get raped, and attacked every DAY, how can we not insure our LIVES?? Isn't that the most important thing we have? A gun - even a .22 - makes a 95lb woman equal to a 250lb rapist. No other item she can carry can even come close.
Kruzr.....are all those .45's yours? Nice collection!
I have a Walther P99 9MM (soon to be silenced with a laser), two HK USP .45 with silver slides (identical to each other) - One is used for self-defense at my home, and I also have a titanium gold desert eagle .50. Will try to post pics up for ya guys later.
Any caliber round can kill someone. More people are killed with .22 cal than any other. When you take defensive shooting classes, you learn that stopping power is good, but shot placement is what stops people. You are taught to shoot to stop, not shoot to kill like you hear on tv. That being said, I prefer .45 hydrashoks or gold dots (hollowpoints) for defensive ammo.
tjhands, yes those are all mine. My Mil-Spec didn't make the picture (it doesn't belong in that company).
