yesterday morning me and my friend were talking over the phone and she saw a person climbing to her back yard. Luckly the guy spotted her and took off in a panic. When I came over to the house to comfort her, I got into thinking; would a taser gun be a good investment? I went to the site and did a little search that night. It's legal in most states and there is no harm in killing the suspect (well...there is but the percentage is low). What do you guys think?
For personal defense at home no! A 12 guage, nastiest loudest one.
If they are in public and want something to carry for defense then yes a taser and/or OC spray would be good.
But, you can't just get the stuff and know how and when to deploy it with out some instructions.
Problem with tasers is that it only immobilizes someone for a few seconds. You can be tazed and then in about 10 seconds be back to normal with no lasting injuries. It would be best if you didn't have to use it and it was a detterent. Usually this would happen when alone and your gonna need more time. So, a combination of the two if good because you can taze them then spray them and get away alot easier.

I think OC pepper foam is a much better alternative. If the tazer is used against the girl, she's at the perpetrator's mercy. The pepper foam will stick to the perp when shot at him and won't backspray onto her. Even if she's been sprayed, she can still move and run. Not so with a tazer.
Tazers are great for law enforcement but not a great self-defense weapon for women. I bought OC pepper foam for my girlfriend and I gave her a personal alarm from work (I'm in the security business) that when tripped by removal of a plastic key will blare a 120 db siren. It's so damn loud that everyone within 4 blocks will hear it. Her apartment neighbors certainly will and it'll scare off most (if not all) attackers I'm sure. Of course, most people don't have access to that sort of equipment.

Acutally, the number of people killed BY a taser is 0. The people who died while they were being tased, they were high on drugs. I belive the corner listed drugs as the cause of their deaths not the taser, although the taser just made it quicker.
I personally have been shot by the X26 and rode it for the full 5 sec. intervals. Trust me, it works! There are many taser out there but "taser.com" is the best. Most defensive weapons (OC, Mace, a huge stick, other tasers etc.) relay on pain complianence and if you're dealing with some who is on drugs they can't feel pain so these weapons are acutally dangerous for the victim since they will be used against you!
Taser's X26 however, sends out 50,000 volts and in a frequencies where it overtake your nervous system. In other words, it shuts down all your muscle control and you can't do anything about it. And it hurts like a Mofo!
Heres a video of a street badass becomeing a wuss after getting tased.

Here's one that they used on a bull. Also funny imo.

FYI with all the ignorance and liberials running around, there are lawsuits pending to make these devices illegal for law enforcemnt and civilian use. Get them now while you can!
I've been tazed by the incapacitating type tazer. It does work. It hurts like crazy but I just had some muscle cramps afterwards. It was no big deal after the current was cut.
Again, I don't recommend it for self-defense for women.
1. OC is not a good alternative cause it relys on pain compliance.
2. Taser has a shot last of 5 sec. Intervals if you press and release the triger. If you hold the triger, it keeps going untill you release.

What is "OC pepper"? I know what pepper spray is but, what does the "OC" stand for?

Oleoresin Capsicum its the gas/chemical in the spray. Pain usually doesn't have anything to do with it. True that it does affect people differently but i believe if used correctly it will have the same affect on most people which is irritation of the mucus membranes. Such as eyes, nose, mouth and throat.

You live in Houston. Like has been mentioned, get a 12 gauge shotgun with a modified choke, and alternate loading it with rifled slugs and 000 buck, making the last one in 000 buck. You'll stop them on the first shot, and kill on the second. If they are really close, you can take their head off their shoulders at about six feet if you wanted with one shot. I guarantee that they will not choose to come back to do any type of harm.

You guys are trying to compare a gun to a taser. Of course for ultimate defense you have to get a gun, but if you don't want to kill, get a taser. Get both for best of both world.

OC provides time to escape. That's all that's needed and the effects last for minutes. The eye responses are involuntary and not just pain related. Ever been sprayed? It's pretty tough to see even if you can take the pain. The fact that it doesn't incapacitate is exactly why it's better to use. A tazer can put the woman at an attacker's mercy if turned on her. That's not a good situation. OC won't incapacitate the woman and she can still have a chance of escaping; far more than against a tazer.

That's exactly right. It hurts normal people like crazy but the effects happen regardless of pain.

You are right, the effects are involuntary but it can be dealt with. I have been sprayed numerous times (I love to get OC and tased, call me crazy). Each time we are sprayed we are required to perform numerous activities including attacking a threat, securing a threat, etc... Since OC is basely pain complaince, the body learns how to deal and adapt to this. Also in situations like this, the person adreline goes up which will help counter-act the pain. Now, if I get spray, its likes water w/onions.
A taser or an OC can be both be used against you. However, if trained properly, the taser has a lesser percentage since it shoots a dart 15' and 99% of the time, it will take the fight out of the offender. The darts are like fish hooks so its hard to jank them out, if if they are, you can still use the taser as a "dry-stun" (taser to skin). The one thing you have to be careful is that if they wear loose clothing, the darts may not penetrate to the skin.
Oh, and the laser desinator on the X26 scares alot of ppl as well.
Because you are right, the average criminals don't, but it only takes one to kill you. Arguments aside, learn how to shoot properly and then get a gun, get a taser, OC, and all that stuff, and learn how to use those as well. But if I have to pick one less-letal weapon to carry, hands down I would get the X26 made by Taser.
