I see you're in California, that could be why. Receivers for AR-15s have to be approved by the state of California for ownership, so it could be cost-prohibitive for gun shops there to carry them. Have you considered building one? There are many online guides for doing so. You get exactly the setup you want as well, and can avoid any legal problems by researching which ones are already cleared by the state.

You want to buy an AR15 and you don't know where to buy one? Is this spur of the moment decision? It doesn't sound like you have done a hell of a lot of research into this subject! Anyway... here is the place to buy an AR15. Don't go cheap. You get what you pay for.

move to PA! i can do anything i want here.. i carry a concealed handgun, have an ar15 (along with several other guns that cali says no no to), and have a silenced 22.. if i had 20 grand to blow I could buy a machine gun too, but i think ill get a TT for the z before that happens.. ur just in a bad state for having a gun hobby...
but seriously, look for sellers in california on gunbroker.com - they might have some legal AR's for cali people!
i dont want a legal AR anymore. because i jsut found out that the mag is fixed to the lower rec..........so u will have ot break the gun to load the mag. i dont want that. i want to be able to take out my mag.

Go get a Stag lower receiver in 5.56. This lower is not listed and can be had in California. After getting the lower receiver buy an AR-15 build kit and assemble the rifle. Ar15.com has a lot of information about assembling. If you opt to pin the magazine, you can have all the "evil" features on the rifle. If you want to have a removable 10 round mag, you have to get rid of the pistol grip, flash hider etc.
Also go to Calguns.net and seach "OLL". (Off list lowers)

You need to move if you want to have an AR15 due to the Ultra Restrictive Laws in CA. There are some "Cali-Legal" AR makers out there (I will have to Look) but you will be limited to 10-Rd Magazines. You will likley have to have a Thumbhole Stalk, No Bayo Lug, No Flash Hider to have enough exceptions to have a removable Magazine.
