Walther. Best gun you'll ever own. Quick Mag release, decocker, double action, you can get it in a compact version if you want, 10 round mag. Literally the best gun you could own in a 40SW. USP...id stick with something other than that just for the fact that bang for the buck is not there, like buying a Harley Davidson, performance is not there and you're paying for the name.
But at the end of the day, get whatever you feel comfortable holding/shooting.
Glock 23......great gun....I owned one and loved it. I've shot the H&K at the range but can't figure why they are so expensive....not appreciably different than most other .40's. I currently carry a Springfield XD-9 and they make a .40 cal in that gun too. Most comfortable to shoot and most accurate gun I've owned to date.
+2 on the Glock 23, it was my first handgun and still among my favorite and the only one I know will fire every time no matter what
Just keep in mind glock dont have the normal 1911 safte or any real external safety for that matter, so if your untrained and dont naturally keep your finger off the trigger, I would get something else. They are completely safe, just if you touch the trigger it will go off.
Lol! Thanks guys. I knew there were some aficionados up in here.
Let me clarify... I've fired
Plenty of guns in my time and my sauer is solid. Just had it for a minute and want to know what's out there to add.
Want a compact.
You need to look at Para Ordinance hawg9 if you want a very comfortable compact gun. They make it in a a 45 cal. but I don't like 3" barreled 45's. My 9mm shoots flawless and very compact. They now offer a Micro9 also. Only downfall they are all $800.00 range.

forgot about that one, its very nice
Also I too dont like 3" barrels in .45, but for it for CC then the 3" make its a lot more comfortable to carry.
you can make up loss of speed from the 3" barrel by getting the light grain ammo I always use speer gold dots, the tend to be a hotter round and they mushroom better then most other ammo, all that will make up for the loss of speed
