I'm fixing to start ordering some parts and just need a few suggestions. I'm probably going with an Ameetec lower and some sort of flat top upper. I'm just in search of a good barrel. Do they make a "bull" barrel for the 15?
The upper I want is a VLTOR MUR. Can I match any barrel I choose to this reciever? I can build anything, I'm just not sure If I can mismatch all of these parts.

Go to ar15.com and they can answer all your questions and there is a sub forum on building. I know one of thier mods is a member here but I can't remmember his name. I had my friend build me an ar with a Rock River matched upper and lower and I know the barrel was not RR. You should be able to mix and match parts as long as they are all high quality and you can put just about any legnth and weight barrel on it and you can even get one custom made.
The Colt AR-15 is probably THE number one semi-automatic rifle in the after-market parts department.
Most companies make parts that are interchangeable, but quality varies.
The best magazine, is the Heckler & Koch 30 round. They cost between $45-$60, but they are real high quality magazines. They are made like a high quality pistol magazine.

Rule of thumb is if you use known brands you won't have any trouble matching stuff up. Except if you're using an older Colt lower that may have larger take down pin holes compared to other manufacturers. Some brands may have a slightly darker or lighter color black to them as well. Not a huge deal but some people complain about.
I've been 2/3 of the way done with my build for well over a year. Maybe it's time to dust that thing off and finish it...
In Cali? Thought you guys were limited to fixed magazine AR's? Or was this purchased before that state law went into effect?
that was registered with the Dept. of Justice before 1989....i got rid of most of the 30 round mags. The 20 round mags are the most versatile, two 30 round ones clipped together is all you need.
Does yours have the 14.5" barrel [Class III required]?
i believe i got the 16.1" barrel...no class III required.
the sucker went fullauto once mysteriously even though its semi auto..
a flasher hider actually helps to suppress recoil.

So the ban of 1989 is what keeps you guys limited to the fixed magazines? I was under the impression that it was a state law in California.
