I really just went with it b/c of that reticle. I don't think it can be beat. Hopefully by this time next year I'll have a Schmidt & Bender 4-16x42 but with the H25 (illuminated hopefully). Either that or a Night Force 5.5-22x50 NXS with any Horus reticle in it.
Industry prediction....Night Force will start offering Horus reticles in about a year to the civilian sector. Wink, wink.

I love the Horus! I did pick up the PDA software I really only use it at work. The thing about the Horus and the software is you can input the variables with hardware and external factors and you have a ridiculously awesome dope. Yet even better, you input your hardware variables (i.e. round, bbl length, twist, dist. of bore axis to optic axis) and it'll give you a constant value that you use for your dope, anytime/anywhere. In other words. My constant for my scalpel is 1.2, I mil anything 12" (human head height for anyone 5'6"-6'2") and subtract that from my constant (keep in mind, the reticle has .2 mil ticks up down and everywhere for the most part). I hold on that with wind and let it ring. Money...everytime. If I want to get that group smaller...I go to the PDA and add in externals (temp./baro. press./sin-cosin/etc.) and it's gets even more ridiculously accurate. I love it. You will see Horus (at least the reticle) take over the market over the next 5-10 years. Trust me.

Excellent report. Im going to have to look into this system. I hope they make an application for the G1 phone.
Currently im using a website with a BDC... so its kind of useless if im shooting some place with no cellphone coverage. lol

Kewlness. I thought about getting a Horus scope seeing as how they are pretty damned cheap in today's world of optics, but IMHO they aren't anywhere near their full potential without the PDA and that's the $$$ part I wasn't sure if I was willing to spend.

I don't know, there's much to be said about keeping it simple and just using what you "really need".
If you know anyone with the PDA or have access to Sniperhide_dot_com buddies with it, you can just get your dope/holds or quick mil factor for whatever system you're rocking then run with it.
For instance. I'm leaving in a few hours to go out of town and shoot over the weekend at a 800M range. I'm not taking my PDA. I know I'm a 1.05 (I said 1.2 earlier, that's for something else sorry - 1.2 is range estimate based off of milling) and that's all I'm gonna do for everything 600-650 and below. Everything above, to be nats butt accurate, I'd need the software.
However, I could really just go off memory:
In 50M increments starting at 600M -
4.9
5.6
6.4
7.2
8.0
8.9
9.9
11
12.11
^That takes me out to 1000M. Of course you'd have to hold your wind.

So the software looks interesting, but what makes it so much better than say the KA software for the Iphone/Ipod. They look to roughly do the same thing.
The reticle looks interesting....looks a little too busy though. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Horus scope once you've worked it a little.

If you don't get an update about this in a week...bump this. I'm too wasted right now to talk smartly about anything really. However, I'd be more than glad to share my Horus koolaid with you anytime!
BTW...a new scope is in my possesion ...it's not the reticle I want but it's "sho nuff the beginning of sumpin I like!". More to follow...with pics even.

The KA software is great. I like it a lot and I've seen it work in the field when it counts. However, the total package there is weak (their software, guns and Leupold with Mildots). Mildot and second focal plane, for that matter, is such an obtruse way of measuring & aiming. I hear similar comments about Horus all the time , "it looks too busy in there". I use Horus because of the "busy-ness". You can hold on a hash or line at .2 mil increments. That keeps you from turret turning and/or "floating" out in empty space of your reticle hoping you're actually where you need to be. With a Horus, I have something solid to hold on and I didn't have to crank a turret to get to my dope.
The majority of guys who don't like Horus are scared to get out of their comfort zone or feel satisfied with their current capabilities. Ok, got it. Yes, the shooter has to be confident and if changing his reticle and focal plane screw that up...keep your mildot and second focal plane. But let's hear about that comfort zone when your target array is made up of 5-7 unknown & varied distance targets, at night. Go ahead and range estimate with you second focal plane (better be on ten and only ten power or your dope won't work with that) mildot (hmm, am I seeing him dot to dot or is he dot to center dot?). Once you get that, start cranking your elevation (oh crap, that near miss RPG made me lose count, wait, what was my dope again? Damn, another RPG...).
You see where I'm going with this? The KA software is great. But if you're using it within KA's complete system (M110, M144, Leupold Mk4,etc), you're not nearly as fast and accurate (equating to lethality and survivability) as a dude with just a Horus reticle... and that's without his PDA! Hell, that's wihout his spotter who may be starting his own line and packing his on bullet hole.
My point is. Mildot is great for shooting three things...steel, paper and the occasional dude from the occasional hide site. But that's not warfare today. Today is city, tomorrow is city and city means many unknown distance targets that already found out about your location long ago.

I forgot to point out that mildot is .5 increments.
Also, on the next episode of Horus koolaid/propaganda, I'll describe how a Horus reticle can soak up even the most nasty stains on your carpet...Horuswow!!!!
