i wondered what happens when you fire these....
wolf 115 grain and 75 grain
from this (glock not included so no wisecracks about firing the 9mm from the AR please)
into this...
1.25" 3 layer Lexan, supposedly bulletproof. this is some heavy stuff, this 12" x 36" sheet easily weighs 40lbs.
what you get is pretty cool. i fired the AR from 275 yards using my new Leupold variable scope. never used it before, bought some rings, strapped it on, first clip was 3 feet to the right. after dialing it in at 275 yards i got it to within a foot, which i was satisfied with. my buddy works for a plastics outfit that makes Lexan and wanted me to test it out under fire. he told me it was bulletproof. after the long range shots with the 75 grain i tested it out against the 115 grain 9mm from 10 yards.
this is the full clip from 10 yards from my glock 26. it "absorbed" every shot. none broke thru. the lexan actually melted and sealed off the round, even with them back to back and as close as a few inches. you can see how the layers seperate and absorb the impact. the round enters the lexan, melts its way thru, then seals off behind it. they are completely sealed in front and back. i had to use a punch and hammer to bang one out.
this is one that hit in the top corner that actually split the layers. and then me trying to split it and get the bullet out.
here is one from the AR at 275 yards. you can see the one right at the edge, there is almost no surrounding damage. the 223 round went right thru even at that distance.
these 3 are from the AR from 10 yards. no different really from either range.
now this is a 9mm hydroshock from 10 yards. notice it didnt penetrate like the FMJ did. mushroomed. im gonna try to get it out in one piece.
heres whats left.
thought some of you would like to see that.

Well, "Bullet proof" rarely implies rifle ammo. And even then I had a 12X12 piece of glass used in armor truck wind shield that claim to be able to stop rifle rounds(3" thick). It did stop one 5.56, the second round went though fragmenting into little pieces.
With a .308 it went though the glass, and the concrete block used to hold it up.
Pistols are fairly easy to stop, my home pistol range backstop is nothing more then rotten tree trunks stacked up.
Really neat test tig. Hey can you try the test again with the AR? Drop the distance to maybe 30 - 50 yards and see what happens.
I'm thinking the AR runs are starting to run out of velocity at 275 yards and the bullets may be failing to expand. I am interested to see what will happen with the higher velocity at the shorter yardage.......the bullet might break up and not penetrate.

Leave it to the Bama boys to experiment with guns.... I can hear the "hey ya'll watch this" ringin' in my ears to this day.... did my fair share of shooting whatever/whenever I could too....

^ I dont think the glass is offering the rapid deceleration to cause break up. Hard objects dont seem to do that. I wonder if the round would be more intact at closer range then longer due to the closer up round have far more speed to overpower the impact of going through glass.

LOL, first thing that popped in my head when reading the title was "Uh oh, this won't end well."
The second thing was of some redneck voice saying "Here, hold my beer and watch this..."

The stories I could tell you from when I was a kid back home in Alabama (Enterprise)... I'm still amazed that I didnt die some horrible death involving guns, fire, dogs, hay balers, klan, football, alcohol, snakes, spiders, swimming, principal's daughter, states fairs, boiled peanuts.... hell the list is endless....

ditto, munford is worse than enterprise. those were the good ole days when, the world wasnt so "safe". you could do things and not worry about being sued, shot, etc. just good clean fun. haha. kids nowadays are just lazy.
