Default SHTF Scenario.... How Ready Are You?

I seen lots of nices guns, rings, good looking set-ups in the home, endless boxes of ammo, tons of loaded P-mags ect.

So here's the question, whats your contingency plan if everything instantly went to hell? What would you do? Where would you go? How would you defend yourself if you were say at the mall, grocery store, driving down the street? Im not talking isolated incidents, Im talking society as we knew it completely broke down. Just curious.

If you dont have a plan and have never thought about this, you're already dead, as that one "gotcha" instance isnt going to give you a second chance.

If I tell you my plans, then you'll also know how to find me and kill me. I can't divulge that kind of information to my potential enemies.

"Bug out bags" in my home and vehicle... although the vehicle bag isn't nearly packed to the extent that the bags at home are. Family friends have quite a bit of land south of where I'm at. I imagine I would try to make it there if possible. I've got plenty of loaded mags for my AR, AK74, and other rifles. Ammo is kept in the big 50 cal ammo cans, so it's readily moveable.

If travel isn't an option, I would have to "hunker down." I'm fortunate enough to have several like minded neighbors when it comes to community support and security. I could see the group of us making a joint effort. I know some of them have similar emergency packs, but I've never talked to them about the subject in depth.

My neighborhood is also centrally located to the hardware store, grocery store, gun shops, etc.. with each being under 2 miles away.

I already live in a semi rural area, but my family has 20 acres in the middle of Texas with nothing around for 60 miles, God himself couldn't find this place. Plenty of hunting, and spring feed ponds to survive off of.
This assumes some warning.
Guns and ammo are not a real concern, but I never have much food to speak of.

Something major happening without warning, and while away from home. Well, I would have a pistol for defence, but not much else at disposal. Perhaps the wrong way to think, but even after the worst of problems, it would take a few days for things to really break down. Other then chaos, it shouldn't be hard to steal, kill your way home within a few hours, or at least get some good enough supplies to make a journey to home.

It's people that live in the city that should really worry, it's always full of incompetent city folk, too many people and the first place government comes to "restore order". A country boy can survive.

That one... invasion by a foreign threat isnt realy realistic. The Zombie scenario, is applicable if say you replace "zombies" with people infected by some mass incurable pandemic.

Canned food and ammo stockpile FTW. Also, propane cans and camping equipment in case utilities get shut off.

In new orleans we deal with this almost every hurricane. Best thing to do is hold down the fort and stay in or close to ya house.

Actually, I wouldn't call it unrealistic. Canada could penetrate pretty far before we could amount a force to stop them. I wouldn't rule out Mexico either. Even the scenario from World in Conflict, if you've ever played it, seems feasible with the Russians penetrating Seattle harbor in disguised container ships.

I'm not going anywhere. I'm on an island. My family and in-laws would come to my house. Odds are, HI would be better off than CONUS. There are many families that sustain entirely off of the land. No electricity or running water. This is by choice, too.

Have things ready like for a natural disaster. Think tactically as you move. You're good to go.

I consider myself pretty prepared to both hunker down and bug out if needed.

I just read this a couple of days ago and it's worth a read for some real world SHTF insight.

Second Post, #2... thats great, I guess in a SHTF scenario, I'll have to avoid white people as well as bad guys lest they think, at 500 yrds, Im some ready to jack them...

I'd have to say, living near a class-A city, and SHTF, I'd take my fam and get out of town...grab a quick 20 min bugout bag and gtfo...up to some land in bumble-fuuu

getting away from people should be #1, the farther people are from you the better off you'll be...especially in zombie style stuff...lol

This is a pretty informative show on the Outdoor Channel that encompasses various SHTF scenarios.
